Free BT Line Connection - save £122.50

My parents are with Virgin and received a letter from BT yesterday, saying if they come back to BT they will save £122.50 on connection fee with an 18 month contract.

You will receive inclusive unlimited UK weekend calls and free calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers at weekends in the £11.25 monthly line rental.

Call 0800 100444 and quote 'save on connection'. Lines open Mon-Fri 8am-9pm, Sat 8am-8pm and Sun 9am-6pm.

I just moved into a new flat and already got the previous deal with the £29.35 connection fee. This sounds like an even better offer! No mention of the minimum calls to make every month in the letter, though they might state otherwise over the phone.

Again, even if you're a new BT customer (like me) I'm sure you can get the deal if you ask.

Seems like a great deal to me, phoned up to check and all seems fine as long as you quote the 'save on connection' mentioned by the OP.

isn't line rental going up to £13 next month?

seems it has already gone up:-

The monthly telephone line rental charge is increasingly being questioned by consumers. It has come under the spotlight with BT's decision to increase its line rental from £11.50 to £12.50 from April 1 2009. BT's competitors are keen to get a piece of the telephone line action, so you may find a deal that suits you from a different supplier.

Great deal if they are trying to charge you for reconnection. I have just applied for a line in a new (to me) flat so waiting to see if they want to charge a connection fee. If so this will save me a fortune!

I am not sure about the line rental though as I was told it would be £11.25/month. Maybe the line rental will only go up for existing customers once they have got you signed up. I really hate how they market prices at BT. Broadband for £14.36 then in tiny print..."for the first 3 months then we will put it up loads and loads argh ha ha ha".

it probably was £11.25 when you applied for the line. It is now £12.50 per month (or £14.50 for paper billing and non dd payment). Just where do they get this 1% inflation rate lol

food up 18% alone in a year!

I only signed up yesterday!

I have just checked the order and it is £11.25 per month for a 12 month contract.

Considering Sky are, what, £10.50 and others around the same for line rental I would be surprised if BT put the rate up??

TIP..

IF you dont have a phone line but have Sky TV... (like my mate has, just moved in)

Get SKY TALK, its £10 a month compared to BT's £15 and SKY will pay the BT install to enable the line for you.

I heard this too. Will be perfect for me when my new house is finally built. I have both Sky & BT at the moment.

Sky is miles better, BT are awful to deal with. No probs with Sky!

SKY frankly are AWFUL

They disconnected our phone line by mistake on 9th February and despite phone calls everyday mounting up to over £100 on my mobile to get this resolved to this date I still have no home phone line

Matter is now in the hands of my solicitor and no matter what they offer I will ensure they answer for themselves in court

Can I still get this and use a different operator like TalkTalk or O2? Or does it have to be 18 month contract with BT? I currently have cable.

Well that depends on who you ask. Sky have been a nightmare for me, their latest £49 package is a rip off. There are hidden charges scattered all over (eg. they mention free 2MB connection and Skytalk install but they don't mention the initial £69 installation fee anywhere). BT are about the same in the cs department.

edit: Fastposted by pvcprinting. Heh goes to show what kind of company they are. (They took free cricket telecasts dammit!)

Good deal if you need a line with BT.

But voted cold because BT are easily one of the most expensive, worst and exploitative large companies around .

If I wanted to join BT and join on a 12 month contract Can I still take advantage of no connection fee?

Also, Can I join BT and swap to post office line rental? Or do I have to pay the full 12 or 18 months before I could leave?

Was thinking of joining bt to join o2 broadband.

Cheers Guys!

When I enquired about this they said you need to be a totally new customer to Sky, eg. no TV.

Here is the deal I know

£11.66 Line Rental Per month

only 12 Months contract (if 18 months contract, you will get 2nd month free)

1.45p per minute for UK local

9.5p per minute for Mobile Phone

This deal is from Primus who is the whole seller from BT. So you will still get BT line but cheaper call rates and line rental. If you go for BT direct offer, there is a 3-5 years contract as a catch which means if move to another Supplier during 3 to 5 years contracts, you will have to pay £800 hefty fine.

Virgin Media will be offering line rental and broadband deals in about June, could be the start of a price war.. might be worth holding out for a couple of months to see what happens before signing yourself into a long contract

Sky suck. Period. I wouldn't have Sky in the house at any price. Same goes for BT and their crappy ADSL rubbish. I'm currently with Virgin Media and they may not be perfect but everything works and their customer service is one of the best. I wouldn't be so polite about Virgin Mobile though ......

Saving a fortune on the 0845 and 0870numbers..

All companies are a nightmare to deal with! I have had endless issues with BT and swore never to give them another penny but moved inot a house with a BT line. I am going to switch to sky. Not that sky's custmore services are much better, they're just not as bad as BT.

My dad had a Virgin line and Sky said they could connect it for a fee of £25, putting BT's extortionate fees to shame.

lol I'm so amused by that statement

actually to be fair - thats not very nice... I've actually met a Virgin customer who is happy with their customer service... pleased to meet you :w00t:

Yah, Sky are installing my phone line for free and the line rental is £10 a month. Also, once that phoneline is defo in, just to give sky a quick call and they will send out the router for the free internet 2mb.

And basic tv package, and sky sports free for the first month, its £27 a month. Cant complain at that eh?

You will enter into a 18 month contract, you wont be able to take your calls elsewhere, you will have to make a minium amount of calls per quarter
Line rental is £12.50 went up as of 1st april (no more price rises in the pipeline)
£1.50 payment processing fee if you dont pay by direct debit
£1.25 saving if you choose to get your bills online.

Sky talk is great value but youre paying over the odds for skyTV so whos the real winner?
as for Broadband BT is very pricey but you get what you pay for, talktalk was rubbish switched to BT and speeds went up from 1MBPS to 8BPS you get what you pay for.

Youre entitled to free evening calls as well

I switched to bt as I wanted o2 broadband. Virgin media was awful for broadband and tv and the amount extra bt may cost for a phone line is easily saved with o2 broadband and freesat tv!

yeah that too

Good find. I am moving into an apartment tomorrow and the previous tenant cancelled the line so now i gotta pay 122 for reconnection. Do you think I can ask Post office to match this deal coz thats what i got in my present flat and I am very happy with them..??

Sorry for the stupid questions, but some ppl mentioned i need to make a minimum amount of calls per quarter. What amount would this be..???

i think its about 10 calls a quarter, basically it means you cant take your calls somewhere else.

I doubt very much that post office will match this, someone still needs to pay for the line to be reconnected and i doubt that post office will pay it to keep you as a customer for 12 months

BT are just the absoloute pits,my daughter ordered broadband they never installed due to an area issue despite them originally saying it was ok,they billed her for it and kept billing monthly, we fought for months and months going around in never ending circles, whoever you talk to never refer to notes of other people you talk to there because they dont keep them so everytime you talk to someone else you have to go thru the rigmorole of the whole script again, avoid BT like the plauge until they get there act together as they just dont care.

(only warm I’m afraid) .... I work dealing with connections of various comms circuits for various clients (big and small) ....

I won't argue the merits or otherwise of the respective comms companies - but it's very, very easy to "strike a deal" with BT / Virgin / CPW etc .... (you don't need special offer codes), if you mention you're considering a switch - all will bend over backwards for your business .... waive connection charges and offer reduced line charges/packages ....

For anyone switching to any provider, do must do your homework on what the others offer and negotiate hard ....

:x:xim new to this but im with sky got a great deal all my mobile calls free local and intern call free for 15 pound's a month. bt i would never go back to them ever again they grab as mutch money as thay can i know was with them 20 year's

Sky Line Rental - £10
Sky Talk Anytime - £5
Sky Broadband Max - £5 (don't ask, we're special)

No complaints, never had to deal with the CS which is the way I like it!

Does anyone know of any other phone companies that will cover the connection fee from bt, other than sky(dont want to have the tv). All I want is the line on a 12 month contract to get o2 broadband and that is it.

On a side note pretty annoyed that bt are trying to charge me a connection fee, jus moved in to new flat that i know previously had a bt line, surely it doesnt cost them 125 quid to switch it back on????

HesFamily4;4886719

Totally agree - had years of terrible customer service with BT, continuously over charging me - charging me for Broadband when I didn't have it.

Got the sky line a few weeks ago - no problems at all, great to deal with & cheaper!

just found the t&c's for this deal here ]http//ww…htm

I'm in the same position as you.. Already fed up with Virgin as I get 3Mbits max on a 10Mbit line.. Plus I can't even play GTAIV online as it keeps disconnecting me..
But, let's get to the point.. Maybe you could try Tesco offer.. It's 10.22 pm
