BT Sport will be free to any consumer BT broadband customer – the first time in more than 20 years that weekly live matches from the Barclays Premier League will be free to watch.
The three BT Sport channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN – will be packed with world class sport, including 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches, as opposed to the 23 ESPN offered. This includes 18 of the best quality ‘top pick’ matches which for the first time ever are not all with Sky Sports.
BT Sport will also offer matches from the Bundesliga, The FA Cup with Budweiser on ESPN, Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, Ligue 1, MLS and many more.
BT Sport is also the new home for domestic club rugby with exclusive rights to televise up to 69 live Aviva Premiership rugby matches per season (previously shared between Sky Sports and ESPN).
In 2014 BT Sport will also be the new home of MotoGP with exclusive live rights to all the Moto GP races (Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP) of the season (18 GPs). This includes all Warm Ups Practice and Qualifying live (previously on the BBC).
We have also added top women’s tennis from the WTA, exclusive rights to UFC Women’s Super League football, Australian ‘A’ league soccer and action sport and lifestyle programming from Red Bull Media House.
Only one in five UK homes currently take a sports channel – possibly due to the high prices that have resulted from there being little real competition, so we want to increase the number of customers enjoying high quality sports on TV.
Ian Livingston, BT chief executive said:
“UK Sports fans have had a rough deal for too long. Many have been priced out of the market but we will change this by giving away BT Sport for free with our broadband. Sports fans are the winners today.
You’ll be able to get BT Sport direct from us via our own TV service, on Sky’s digital satellite platform and also online or via a new App letting you enjoy the channels on the move or at home on your PC, smartphone, or tablet.

£12 for non BT BB customers (£15 with HD)

Got confused trying to order just the broadband access - kept going round in circles with it trying to make me buy BT TV or through sky. Then found this:

"BT Sport app and online player

As an existing BT Broadband customer you are automatically entitled to FREE access to BT Sport 1 & 2 and ESPN via the BT Sport app and online player.

You don't even need to do anything! We'll be in touch when BT Sport launches and let you know how to start viewing World class sport action."

I'm waiting on the prices going up, doesn't compensate for the dire and unresponsive new user interface or the constantly worstening movie selection we've got..

Still considering moving to Sky anyway! Now if they got us Sky Atlantic..

i suspect we will see an increase in either line rental or BB charges to compensate this, might be wrong though, still good to see sport coming back from Sky.

kind of sounds too good to be true? keep thinking there is a catch somewhere "you get nothing in this life for free"

damn

just got Sky Fibre, wish I had known about this a month ago :(... oh well give them a year for the teething problems to get resolved

You don't have to be on BT Vision, can have it with Sky TV as long as you have BB.

Also from their website, extends your contract:

Already have BT Broadband?

BT Sport is free! This is how you get it

BT customers with the Sky Digital Satellite Platform

Just add BT Sport to the Sky Digital Satellite Platform for FREE.

This will start a new 12-month contract of your current BT Broadband package.

You will need your account number to place the order. Find this on your latest bill or by logging in to My BT.

ahh there it is, catch 101.... as always a catch in the T+C's

What happens when you have sky multiroom? do you just fill in the online order form 3 times for the 3 different viewing cards?

Order before August 1st and get HD for free.

Well this has thrown another option out there. I was trying to decide between Plusnet and Sky, but this is now a contender

£49 connection fee for the box over ip, i'll wait to see if they punt them out on a free offer.

Done! Thanks op

As I got BT Infinity 2 in March this shouldn't be a problem. My work colleague got Infinity 2 installed yesterday too, so both of us are signed up to 18 month contracts, therefore starting a new 12 month contract won't be an issue for either of us.

Will this be included for BT Business customers?

Can't see Sky sports being topped by BT.

Looks a good deal.

Apparently my area can't get infinity max we can get is 1mb which he are already on. We can get the online/app sport package only sadly. Still hot, sadly won't be on my tv screen!

any word from virgin about bt sport and what way that will work?

It's not "coming back from Sky" as Sky still have most games. This is the package that ESPN currently have and which is switching to BTSport next season.

only free for 12 months though

Awesome post - Thank you. This is BT's way of fighting sky. Thank goodness I switched to BT one month ago

Really?

Do I need to ring up to order it for the online and app player only? We haven't got Sky or infinity so wont be getting that.

Its still a great deal football wise 38 premierleague games, plus football from : Bundesliga, Seria A, Lique 1, MLS, Brasil and FA cup and Europa league, not to metione other sports. This is a great deal.

alexbouca

only free for 12 months though

It's the HD channels that are restricted to a year, with no word on any limits on the SD:

If you have a satellite receiver box and viewing card, you can easily take BT Sport from us. You don't need to be a BT customer - but if you have our broadband, it's free. And it's only available direct from BT. Order now for free HD for a year

Just ordered. Cheers!

Yes its free but effectively you are paying for it by BT's much higher charge for internet.
£7.50 for unlimited on sky
£16 for unlimited on BT

Hello, does anyone know if you will be able to get sky sports through BT like you can currently, this has not been mentioned anywhere?

I was on Sky and had issues with Wifi (Blue screen on my laptop), slow performance during key times and slow performance. I changed to BT and all this has gone away. Plus with cashback and Sainsbury vouchers £16 becomes morelike £8-10 pretty quickly. For me it is worth it.

I have a Sky box for tv, but internet through BT, can i get the sport channels on the sky box?

I don't have anything BT but I have sky. Where is the pricing for me ?. I need the BT for UFC and the football.

Ordered sky bb and talk last week already have sky tv thinking what to do now

Wow... this is incredible from BT. Massive props to them for bringing all this sport to terrestrial television. Now... just need to find out how much it will cost on sky :(.

As a plus though, surely sky will start to become slightly more competitive (£16 for sports upgrade is ridiculous eh)

Yup they stated you only need BT broadband to qualify for the free BT sports package.

Eh, had a lot of problems with BT last time I was with them. Hopefully Sky will offer some rival deals.
Looks like they're dropping ESPN America stuff too?
