Is is a soft search?

Very likely not as I was rejected for an account.
Procedure for cash deposits not clear. Cheque deposits via post.
Can you use personal & business account on same mobile in one app?

Yes you can
Is it free for life or just 1st year
They check it against Companies House and you have to be the sole director or PSC so it's not useful except for sole traders. Generally good service though. Much better than Revolut anyway

For cash, Starling for Business account holders will soon have the option to make deposits at the Post Office – in Jane’s case, just a three minute drive away – under a partnership between Starling and the Post Office launching in the summer.

I just got this from their website. It looks as though they do a soft search to open the account and tell you what overdraft limit you will have, but only do a hard search when you request to use the overdraft.

"before you open a current account with us we conduct a ‘soft’ search – like a background check – to get to know you better as a customer. This search is how we figure out if you’re eligible for a pre-approved overdraft with us too. However, this search will not impact your credit score in anyway unless you accept the pre-approved overdraft. If you do choose to have an overdraft with Starling, that’s when we do a ‘hard’ check, which is registered in your credit history and may influence your overall score."

Well I never requested an overdraft and I still got rejected, but if you want to go for it then go for it. I ended up opening a basic bank account with HSBC in the end since they've recently introduced contactless for basic accounts.

It means I can ditch TSB as my second account now.
How safe is this?
It can't be a hard check it must be a very soft credit check because my credit rating is pants and i got a businesss account i only wanted it for a secondary account to put money in lmao

The difference must be because I had a debt relief order back in 2014, although that's only 'active' for a year.

I opened the HSBC basic account without an issue, but when I asked about why I was refused, Starling tweeted me back with "Sent you an email !!" ... which then just reminded me that i'd been refused

They usually cant tell you and get a letter saying check experian etc.. usually its a computer that generates a score on your credit file which customer services have no access to. (Underwriting team should deal with that)
Isn't it great to know a number decides if you'll be accepted for credit or not ... I'm basically a number to lenders and creditors and i thought i was a human more fool me eh!

Main account got payments in and also Int payments.
I would NOT run a business account with these guys or Revolt from my experience (accounts frozen/suspended/restricted). You could easily have your account frozen and be without your funds which could really hurt a small business.

The same could have been said for TSB, with issues accessing current accounts. I'm still waiting for compensation - 6 weeks and counting...

Gonna use the tsb fiasco to get out of my mortgage early! Can't access the accounts online for weeks just acknowledged my complaint but nothing else. Joke of a bank. Just a few months ago offered to go on a ten year fix. Thought it would have been free money for them but still wanted to charge me exit fees for existing. I know thats the deal but normally if you renew thought they would have done something. Ever since sabtel took over its been a disaster. Why doesn't this country ever learn that mergers only destroy value ultimely. Can't wait to get out
For multiple share holders, seems to be if the director has more than 75% share holder, then eligible.
There is no FEE. it is free (NO 1 year restriction).
