Free Carbon Monoxide Detector - Northern Gas

Looking at getting a new boiler, and I discovered that Northern Gas are giving away free carbon monoxide detectors. All you have to do is complete your name, address, email and phone, plus 5 other simple questions about your current heating system.

Did a search and looks like the only other free offer like this has now expired so I thought I would put this up.

If it wasnt for one of these detectors - my sister and nephew may not be here today due to an ventilation fault with her gas fire. Keep you and your family safe for the cost of nothing.

Cheers.

***NOTE*** If you dont want the obligatory phone call - make sure you put a 'wrong' number in the telephone section - dEvILSiXpEnCe

great thank you

thanks too

Great, thanks for this.
Do you know if is one of those patches, or a 'proper' detector?

Thanks, odered one jfor daughter - we havent got gas!

I've ordered one to see what comes. If your boiler is room sealed (condensing or combi) then you should not need a detector. It used to be recommended that one was put in the kitchen if you had gas cooker/hob.

Thanks.

Thanks from me too ..

These are the small square ones with 3 months shelf life.

is anyone having problems getting on this site, it wont allow me to access it

Yes the website isn't working

Thanks, we actually need a CO detector, our fireplace has been shut off because we have a blockage in the chimney.

5th attempt now keeps crashing on me

Same here! We might have generated too much traffic... :-D

Not working for me either

Seems to be working now, but it takes ages to load

Worked fine for me at 9am. Probably just all the hotukdeals people logging on, wait till lunch for it to settle down!

filling this form, will it give them permission to hound us with tele sales calls?

already phoned me...beware

Years ago I came home from school to find my family feeling ill, passing out and throwing up. We though it was food poisoning until later on I got a splitting headache so I deduced it was something environmental. I turned the boiler off and opened all the windows.
It turned out that after the chimney stack was removed the flue from the boiler was positioned incorrectly which lead to the problem.
I shall try and order one of these for my parents.

Ive ordered one but this plonker put my correct tel no in so hope I dont get a call:x just wont answer the phone to any random numbers today!!:whistling:

Just asked for 1 though with many of these offers the items never seem to come to anything unless you live in the region they cover.
Voted Hot anyway

Thanks

i sent for one of these about 4 months ago i was sneeky and didn't post it though

It's a little square one. I got one and i don't live in Wolverhampton which is where the place is

Thanks for this. I entered wrong number too but i'm sure they could find the number from the address if they really wanted to

Having spent 4 days in hospital with Carbonmonoxide poisoning as a kid with the rest of my family due to leaky gas pipes, I say this is one of the best deals I've seen on here if it comes off, useful & free...what else do you need?
Cheers OP, heat & rep added.

thanks - I've been thinking of getting one of these for a while.

Thanks I've been after a CO detector. :-D

Voted hot...

I just put N/A in the phone number section. Worked fine.

thanks!!

Site working fine at the mo.

Great! Thanks for the pointer

Best wishes, Neil

As a CORGI registered company we thought it important to highlight the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning on our website and to help protect people by giving them a detector free. We have had over 2000 emails in the last 2 hours which we will endeavour to send out as soon as possible. We are not a British Gas so we do not have teams of telesales people waiting to call. The only reason we phoned 4 people this morning was to find out where all the emails were from. The reponse has been fantastic but it may take us a while to get them out to you but we will get them out. I have had to phone up the manufacturer and order more in order to meet demand. Please bear with us and be safe. General Manager. Northern Gas Heating.

Thanks dEvILSiXpEnCe, top post.

Two thumbs up for you, nobby57.

Voted hot thanks:thumbsup:

Hi all. Shame my first post has to be on this company!

From my own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I wouldn't touch Northern Gas & Heating with a barge pole! They installed a combi for me a couple of years back and I spent the next 6 months fighting over the terrible workmanship and downright lies of the guys who installed the system.

However, for a free CO2 detector and no further business with them, I'd go for it!.... but I told them to remove me from their system and never EVER contact me again!

Dear Coatesuk. I am very sorry also that you did not feel you got the level of service you expected and I expect our customers to receive. Whilst we install over 3000 central heating systems a year and have a very high customer satisfaction level, I cannot comment on your individual case but only to offer my sincere apologies. To avoid our customers going through any problems we have employed additional quality control inspectors and now give all our customers a five year parts and labour (written) guarantee for their peace of mind with their central heating system. I think by now giving away over 3000 carbon monoxide detectors in less than 3 hours shows we are a caring company and whilst no one gets it right all the time we always endeavour to deliver the goods. Be safe. General Manager, Northern Gas Heating.

cheers Mr L - voted hot

I notice that it's a "detector" and not an "alarm" which is being offered free here - It may just be one of those plastic stickers which changes colour if carbon dioxide is present - so, not much use when you're asleep....

Can anyone confirm exactly what is being sent out yet?

It seems unlikely that any company (apart from Hoover!) could be offering unlimited numbers of CO alarms costing around £20 each retail just to get some phone number contacts.
