Very nice find, been wanting a free .co.uk domain

Subscribed thanks. Already had a .com address i got off a similar deal for £1 now i got the .co.uk site for free.

Free co.uk domain with low renewal also here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/vouchers/free-co-uk-domain-registration-using-promotion-code-sitetopia-1258190

wonderful, tks

I used Yola to design a website for a small business. It's a basic template but does most things you need it to. Impressive for free in the first year and definitely worth paying the subscription fee in the second year.

Okay got mine, but it seems they limit you to using there sitebuilder thing

Anyone know a good place to move my domain to?

Hey, I've got my free domain (Thanks OP). Now it has my "billing address", my question is when the subscription reaches renewal how do they charge me? Surely they wont send a bill through the post?

I used this about 2 years ago...my web designer found it very restrictive for him to be able to design how he normally designs. We decided to move hosting to another company within 4 months.

So in effect, signed up, got the domanin .co.uk for free and then got it hosted by another company, with a hot chocolate fountain design template.

Footnote: We had a lot of trouble communicating with these guys in getting the appropriate details to allow us to transfer my site to the new hosting company, but at the end of the day....got it done!

thanks a million!

thanks to your tip my website is up an running.

I was intending to do it for a while but I did not want to pay anything (and I wanted a proper web address) as I am not sure it will take off.

so this worked as a free treat

Amending DNS is a lot easier now, option is there in the control panel, takes seconds!

You have to wait minimum 6 months before you can transfer your domain away

Okay for free but having played with this 'website builder' I decided not to touch it with a barge pole and I pay £9 per year (£3 co.uk and £6 housting) per website including domain name for something that is *much* more flexible.

Bit harsh. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.

Like 'bilojb' said earlier, how do they charge us for the second year? They didn't take any details

They don't! Not sure where that information came from.

Putting a tiled image of ganja leaves and a page full of text that you have copy pasted from other websites isn't a good place to start, especially not when that information is being copy pasted from somewhere as useless as PC world -,-

If people seriously want to get into web design there are hundreds of places online with information and tutorials that would help you make a better site in 5 minutes, not to mention college web designers will do it for free just to have something for their portfolio if you really don't have the time to learn or the money to pay professionals. I made better websites than that in high school with dreamweaver ffs

this is probably one of the best free sites out there w3schools.com/ with stuff for beginners and advanced people. I've learnt a few tricks from that site for my latest project.

thanks for the post

My site is hosted for free with 000webhost and I am forever getting page cannot be displayed or SQL errors as their servers are down or overloaded. Having said that, they are working well at the moment.....truereedz.co.uk

Cheers just grabbed mine, Got it pointed at my home ip for now works great.

If you want to use these for serious business websites I would think again as it will always works out more cost effective to get an established / reputable / professional website design company to buy / host / design / maintain / promote your website. We convert a lot of these types of websites (from free site makers) and have a history of improving website visitors buy huge percentages. We say to people that try to push these types of website that when a free website ranks in the top 5 for any 'competitive search term' we will sit up and pay notice.

Could you tell me how to do that?

Got my free domain name and pointed at a hosting service I already use. Many thanks.

these free deals are fine if you really don't care about who controls your domain, always check the renewal cost as they can hold your domain to ransom when you need to renew.

I found a .com address I'd like to register, the address has absolutely nothing on it, none of those adverts for rent this domain etc. How do I go about getting that address, do you still have to go through the same process of paying someone yearly for it, even though it appears completely unregistered?

Voted hot, i used this to get me going too. basic sometimes but easy to use

Excellent point. Can someone detail what happens after one year?

Can someone recommend some reliable and cheap then ?

123-reg.co.uk or 1and1.co.uk

How do you point it to another domain?

djvrs

http://www.123-reg.co.uk or 1and1.co.uk

also daily.co.uk

I used this to set up my own web-site last year. I found it good for a basic web-site and we've had some traffic through it too. When it came up for renewal I received an e-mail from Yola requesting I renew- which I did. I think it was in the region of £35.

spanglefish.com

We used those years ago for my husband's website. Fab support on the forum, and from the people who work there (who don't sleep, it seems). I would absolutely recommend them (and always do!) for great service and being lovely human beings.

ps I'm not on commission. My husband hasn't had to pay for marketing or trudge around the industrial estates to drum up business since he started in 2007, it all comes through his website. It's really helped his business, I'd love to think it'd help someone else's.

hi, does anyone know where you can opt out of showing your contact details from the DNS database? I heard you can opt out for .co.uk addresses but cant find anything in yola itself?

djvrs

^ noob. Avoid 1&1 like the plague. 123-reg are also pretty shoddy.

Use: domainmonster, namecheap or Gandi.

You won't be able to on gbbo as the clue is in the name "Getting British Business Online". Whois opt out is only valid for non-trading private individuals.

Create an account on Nominet using the same email you signed up to gbbo with and you can request the change on there however.
