BikeRight runs FREE cycling confidence courses. These are based on the National Standard for Cycling, an initiative endorsed by the Department for Transport.

I have been on the courses and, apart from having the major plus factor of being free, they really are worthwhile. I am much more confident cycling around Birmingham . . .

The courses cover complete beginners (never learned to use a bicycle) to advanced riders. It really is worth attending as you will see improvements in your riding and feel better about cycling both on and off road.

Also, they run FREE maintenance classes (punctures, gears, brakes and safety checks). You will need these skills if you want to do some basic maintenance yourself.

You can borrow a bicycle for one of the lessons. They even provide free tea and coffee at the sessions at their office near the NIA in Birmingham. The usually run sessions there on Saturdays, Monday evenings and Friday afternoons. There are other places too, but too many to list. Check out their website for details: bikeright.co.uk/ser…g2/
