"Darkwood - a new perspective on survival horror. Scavenge and explore a rich, ever-changing free-roam world by day, then hunker down in your hideout and pray for the morning light."

as Pirate Bay is blocked in UK, you'll need to use a VPN, and a torrent client eg BitTorrent, or BiglyBT, to get it (see below).

however, it's 100% legal (see link), and virus free!!

suggest first go to the Steam link (store.steampowered.com/app…od/) to check your PC is up to spec (tho DON'T download it from there, or it'll cost you €13.99!!)

BiglyBT: biglybt.com/

Windscribe VPN: hotukdeals.com/dea…535

It should be pointed out that this was put on torrent to assist those that could not afford to buy the game.

"If you don't have the money and want to play the game, we have a safe torrent on the Pirate Bay of the latest version of Darkwood (1.0 hotfix 3), completely DRM-free,"

"There's no catch, no added pirate hats for characters or anything like that. We have just one request: if you like Darkwood and want us to continue making games, consider buying it in the future, maybe on a sale, through Steam, GOG or Humble Store."

The developers have put it on torrent sites themselves for free.
Torrent are not illegal. This is not a pirate copy. Pirate Bay is just the name of the torrent site

Very nice gesture on the devs part - more could learn from them! Though I think they would have been better offering a normal download link e.g. from their site possibly, as torrents have such a unfair bad reputation not helped at all by sites called "piratebay" leading the average consumers to assume all torrents are dodgy....

    Probably due to bandwidth.

You're DOWNLOADING a game from the interwebs?! Steam?! OMGZ! Pirate!!!
Its an interesting idea and certainly a way to go with the flow. I have seen something like this before were I think it was a movie maker released there short movie on a torrent site

The end of the day torrent sites are not illegal its just what people put on them

Pirate bay will be blocked in the UK but Epic Browser will get you there

    epicbrowser.com

    Looks stunning

They want people to actually buy their game, hosting a download at their own expense would be counter-productive.

but if it was that counter-productive, why put it on PB?

while i can accept their philanthropist viewpoint about keeping games affordable incl to those who can't usually afford them(!), the cynic in me suggests that they hoping to get a ruck of positive publicity in the gamer press, and similarly in reviews, leading to more sales of both this, and future games???
after all, the famous philanthropist HJ Heinz has certainly sold a lot of beans!!

however, in the meantime... grab the freebie and enjoy?!?!

I don't know why that should be regarded as a cynical motive on their part. They have to make a living like everyone else, and at the end of the day they are giving people the option to legally get it for free.

It's probably a bit of both. It has gained them a bit of free press. There's no loss as indie games are usually on file share sites release day anyway. This just means more people will play their game and maybe buy it or future games as you say.
99% of people who download this for free will have been able to afford it just fine. The worst mistake you can ever make in life is to trust in the goodness of people when it comes to financial decisions.

re cynical, i *certainly* wasn't knocking 'em for doing so!!
good luck to 'em, and if it gets a few sales etc...
(they might even get a few from some of us, in recognition of their generous spirit??? )
Why didn't they just put it on their own website for free free download like Bethesda did with first 2 Elder scrolls games. Or just have it free on steam for like a weekend or something. Pirate bay has a terrible rep and is blocked in some countries so you have to use a vpn to access. Awkward. Lol

piratebay has way more daily visits than their website and probably even the games media sites reporting this story. Giving it away on steam will lose you potential customers. The people on pirate bay were never going to buy this anyway but this might convert a few into potential sales.

not a bad idea, however... what is, is etc

from personal exp, i would NOT generally recommend using the PB!
it's *usually* ok for eg music/videos, but i stopped using it for software a *long* time ago...

this is obv genuine tho (and the download scans 100% clean on Bitdefender!) otherwise i wouldn't of posted it!

I can't even access the pirate bay (or any of the proxy sites)
Just get this error on Firefox:
"An error occurred during a connection to proxybay.one. SSL peer rejected a handshake message for unacceptable content. Error code: SSL_ERROR_ILLEGAL_PARAMETER_ALERT"
And on chrome, the tab closes as soon as it opens.

Both browsers work when I use my VPN. But does anyone know why? I've tried opening Firefox in safe-mode, and disabled my anti-virus, but still nothing.

Try Epic browser, I just copied the pirate bay URL and opened in Epic and downloaded with no problem
Not working for me through epic browser. What URL are you using?

try this one... pirateproxy.cam/ (it *defo* currently works in UK using Chrome, incl without using a VPN)

like 'whack a mole' these PB proxies come and go... depending on how quickly the legalz can catch up with 'em

btw, i wouldn't normally advocate using PB, but seems on this occasion we ain't got much choice!
