Free delivery on all orders to Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada at M&S

I have family in Canada & often ship presents out via M & S. Their website states delivery to Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada is usually £15, but quite often it is free if you spend over £30.
I have received an email from them saying for a limited time, postage to these destinations is free, with no minimum spend.
There are obviously local taxes which might be payable by the recipient. But in my experience, when I've posted to Canada, if the value is below £35 no taxes have ever been applied. I have just placed two separate orders for roughly this amount to avoid tax which could be applied to an order with a higher value.

I took your advice ordered a jumper from M&S to be sent to my niece in Canada with discount, gift wrap plus free postage, total £15.55, they received it last week, they text me told me they've been charged $29+ dollars taxes, that was to Maple,Ontario. so how come your relatives were not charged taxes in Canada?

Was the parcel marked/ticked as a gift on the customs label?

We have had the same issue, M&S are not completing the custom labels correctly. When asked they just said that they advise customers about taxes, if they completed the customs labels correctly all gifts under $60 should not be subject to taxes in Canada.

this seems to have finished now

If only I lived in one of those countries

Aren't there some kind of imports/custom duty on these goods?

Wouldn't have spotted this! Very helpful! Thanks!

Unfortunately M and S have changed from Royal Mail/Canada post to DHL and since this change DHL are paying customs duty on behalf of the customer on all orders, plus a charge for doing so. M and S do not want to know when contacted and say that they have no say in what happens once DHL pick up the order. Suggesteď getting in touch with customer service to check DHL had charged the correct amount! Who has time for that in the run up to Christmas! End of Christmas and birthday presents from M and S!
