Advert says the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebook worth £450 with 1GB of memory and a 80GB hard disk. The AOL Broadband contract is for 24 months at £20 per month, which is a total of £480 over 2 years. Thus spend £480 on broadband a get a £450 computer.

Interestingly, the Inspiron 1520 starts at £599 on the Dell website (though with a 120 GB hard disk):
www1.euro.dell.com/con…dhs
So the deal seems even better !!!

Sounds pretty good to me.

It's already been put on here but thanks for bringing it back to everyones attention:) Welcome to HUKD

Be careful ones listed on Dell website are Intel Core 2 Duo and the one you get is only a Celeron 540.
Worth £450? IMO No.

Interesting though is if you buy a laptop from Dell shipping is £60 but they will ship it for only £14.99!

Someone should tell Dell about payperdrop they would save a fortune!
And with all that money they save the could send us all though's cheap HD they promised!!!:w00t:

tOmm why you still up it's late!:-D

Sorting some stuff out :giggle:. Dell wouldnt be able to use PPD though, they ship from ROI[Eire]

Where in Nottm you from then?

Well, a recent survey showed that 90% of HUKD users were corrupt. So why not!

Or just hospitalise yourself for 3+ months and then bail out of the contract for medical reasons :giggle:

And you can even use your free laptop to watch DVD's when your not eyeing up the nurses!

Would think this thread will get closed or moved in the morning.
So make the most!:w00t:

What its gone 3am again!

I think im gonna carry on doing what i'm doing into the early hours and if it gets too late i'll just stay up, looks like its a trip to viccy centre to get some espresso shots :giggle:

Well if you do stay up try and drag some of thoughs 6am early birds onto it then it might get moved to 'Miscellaneous Musings and Random Nonsense' rather than closed down.

Ill probably be up then, just getting my 4th cup of coffee :P

Buy a coffee machine and sit it next to the computer so you never have to move!
There's a thought, task for all the 3am club. Coffee machine as cheap as you can find.
GO!

Considering I did actually think of buying one :giggle:

Hi, Notice that PCWorld/Currys (DSGi) have pulled the plug on their free notebook offering from signing up to Orange Broadband.

Best Regards.

I'm from Nottingham too. That's my story.

Looks a good deal to me, been thinking of switching my isp.
Anyway voted hot mate.

I emailed AOL customer services and they said existing customers can sign onto this deal but with an 18 month contract rather than the 24 months for new customers.

Anyone actually found details of a Celeron-based Inspiron 1520? Can't find hide nor hair of such a model ]via Google so far...

Thinking this might be a "special" one-off for AOL, made up from either redundant/outdated stock, or leftovers from previous machine runs. Clutching at straws with the latter, but weirder things have happened.

Not sure I want to commit to anything for 24 months though (my marriage not included!).

What is that 'AOL Talk Pay As You Go' about? Is it another BT and can I not use it?

does anyone know if you can move house with this ?

adr0ck

Think you'd be better off with a removal van.:giggle:

Can't find such a model myself but aol say is is limited to 100,000 laptops so don't think they will be made up from redundant/outdated stock, or leftovers from previous machine runs. :w00t:

just a note to anyone thinking of taking this offer up, if you dont live in a LLU area the package is £29.99... from what i have been reading.. "AOL broadbans will be charged at an extra £10 per month as its router through a different supplier" - T&C - shop.carphonewarehouse.com/sho…php

I have sent in my details to register my interest

I am from Arnold in Nottm too. Small world

OK guys so lots of debate

So how much now is actually the PC worth do we think - scrapping the £450 retail value what similar spec lap top can you get for what price.

I am in a position to change my ISP and also want a basic lap top, as is I think a lot of people. So to spread the cost of "payment" for said lap top isn't a bad idea 0 % interest free so to speak.

OR can anyone offer a better deal on internet and a good lap top - that if you wanted to could chuck on a 0% card and do it that way ?...
