Free Drink for Current or Former Military Service Personnel on Sunday 12th Nov

23
Found 11th Nov
Available from any Marstons brewery pub. This is something that every establishment should offer to our brave servicemen and women as a thank you for work they do.

As a way to show our thanks this Remembrance Sunday, if you have served or are a serving member of the armed forces you can get a free drink of your choice.

Just present your military ID, medals or discharge papers to claim your drink on Sunday 12th November.

It’s a small token to show our gratitude for the incredible work the armed forces do to keep us safe.

Marstons have always done this, good on them and heated

Nice. Its good to see our armed forces past and present being looked after a bit.

Yes, my criticism of the military was deleted but it's absolutely fine to make political comments in support of the military. The moderator comment says that I can respond to this censorship in the footer but there is no option to do this on the form, so I am responding publicly.

The offer is available at any Marston's Inns and Taverns pub managed by the company on Sunday, November 12. The offer, however, is not valid in leased and tenanted pubs.

Almost worth joining up for a free pint of Pedigree!

Great idea this.
It's only right. Especially for older folks.
Imo the armed forces should get everything free or heavily discounted!
My dad served in the army twice.
Did Nat Service for a few years, then signed up again for a few years. Saw the world. Involved in actual Active Service in Greece!
Now he has Vascular Dementia & my mother takes very good care of him, in her 80s, because we can't afford any Respite Care for him, or Indeed, full time care!
He gets Attendance Allowance of around £55 per week, which didn't go far at all on any Carers hourly rate. Up to £16 per hour!

Thank you Marstons Brewery! 😃😁

This isn't the place for what, free speech? You understand that the basic principle of free speech is that it's unpopular speech that needs protecting? Private companies are well within their rights not to permit offensive comments but whether something is offensive or not is purely subjective. I find the comments supporting the military on this post offensive but they haven't been removed, whilst mine criticising the military have. This shows a bias on the part of the moderator whether that is conscious or not. I'd be happy to agree with you that this isn't the place for political comments but tell that to the other people who have commented as well. If the moderators don't like what I've said then at least have the integrity to address me in an open forum rather than censoring me.

I personally have never heard anything more offensive than this line in the post: 'It’s a small token to show our gratitude for the incredible work the armed forces do to keep us safe'. Orwell couldn't have written anything better than that.

Is this deal applicable for murderers that have served their sentences as well?

You do understand that this is a private website, and that the owners/moderators are allowing you to be here, they have the full rights to remove any, and every word, you say, whether you like it or not?

You do not have any rights to free speech on here.

You agreed to the terms and conditions of this site when you signed up for it, you agreed not to post anything that includes;-
"soap-boxing"
is "disrespectful to other people or groups of people, their views or beliefs"
"Intentionally targets, harasses or bullies an individual or group of people, their views or beliefs"
"Trying to deliberately stir up arguments, upset members, or generally being disrespectful isn’t permitted"

By inference from what you have said that is still on this page, it looks very much like you've broken those 4 guidelines alone, nevermind anything else.

Besides, in case you forgot, this is a website for posting deals.

You do understand that this is a private website? Maybe you want to re-read what I said given that I explicitly said this before you even mentioned it.
You do not have any rights to free speech? Who said I did, maybe you want to re-read what I said.
I could quite easily argue that you have broken all four of those guidelines given your comments towards me. You seem to be missing my whole point that what some people find offensive, others do not. These are also really important considerations for pubic free speech and public order offence etc. and trying to maintain a free and open democratic society.
Yes post the deal, forget the politics! I don't want to hear what a great job the military is doing, I find it offensive, if you genuinely feel so strongly about this then you could also remind the people who post these comments this is a place for deals so I don't have to feel sick to my core reading them and feel the need to respond. I suspect that you will not.

Just water it down a little like the pub I'm about to frequent will do to my free beer I'm about to receive. To The Fallen. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

@Silurianxx bore off pal.
If you want to exercise your right to free speech today, instead of hiding behind your keyboard, why don't you pop down to your local Marstons brewery pub and spout off there big lad?
I hope there's a bunch of squaddies there to tune you in, while waiting for their free meal.

So your response to open criticism in a free society is a threat of violence towards me? Will the moderators remove your comment I wonder.

I read your comment again, and it still clearly looks like you believe there is free speech on here, and that you have a right to it, and that you/me/they should be defending it.

You might want to rewrite your comment, because the message it gives is "I have a right to say want I want and be offended by others"

In short, no.

Please feel free to leave, if you feel that way.

PS in the real world it is that army that gave you the freedom to be offended. Please remember that.

And yet again, this website is not "a free society", it's private.

OK, let me be very clear so there is no confusion. I personally don't care what other people say because it's just words, I'm more concerned with actions. I think this should be an open forum but as this is a private space the moderators can censor comments. My point is and it is a very simple one, if they are going to censor then they should do it consistently particularly in respect of political opinion. You seem to forget that I'm the one who was censored here and now threatened with the squaddies. You know that's what he meant and if you pretend otherwise then you're not being sincere. It might surprise you that I can respect your opinion even if I don't agree with you. For me this isn't personal.

You do care what other people say, you're offended by their support of the military.

The very people who allow you the freedom to be offended.

Stop digging.

Ok, maybe wasn't simple enough.

My local and a few others around me offer free drinks to servicemen and veterans alike on remembrance day.. I walked in with my medals on after a service I attended and was given a free drink..

I would gladly pay for the drink.. but being a Yorkshire man I'll take a free one thank you very much

Lest we forget.

If you don't agree with the military getting a free drink on the day to remember fallen comrades (not just of the World wars) then please keep your opinions to yourself.
