This seems like a cracking deal. o2 are allowing a free upgrade for anyone not on a refresh contract that expires before March next year!
If your contract expires after that they are knocking 25% off whatever is outstanding.
O2 don't normally offer discounts if you're upgrading early so seems like a steal.
You can even sell your current phone on ebay and could make some money out of changing early

Welcome @Mohammed.Shaikh thanks for sharing

I believe you have to upgrade to an O2 refresh contract to qualify tho.

Upgrades direct with the network are always carp so not worth it IMHO. Wait, hand in your notice and see what they offer you then....

Agreed. My tactic every upgrade.

Thanks opMy contract due to expire in January so will have a look but not sure I want to commit myself for another two years.

Its not free ...just penalty free ...u need to take out a new contract

Pay for a new contract and pay for a handset ...nothing free!!!

How are o2 like with retention deals? Do they offer good deals to existing customers upon upgrade?

A good first post I'd say!

Sorry to go off topic, but will you be changing your username on Sunday; nice12sidedpound?

Hmm, just wondering (I don't have an o2 contract, so not read the detail), could someone take a low value contract on a cheap phone & save money taking out one of the stonking sim only deals about at the moment? Just thinking someone on a massive £60 plus S7/6s contract with 5 months to run vs cheapest 2 year contract at maybe £10...

May not be worth it.

Hang on a mo... cheapest phone is £15/mth (though out of stock) which is £4 phone, £11 airtime.

Cancel after 1 month - pay £96 (phone) plus £22 (2 months airtime) = £118. £118 to get out of up to £250 to £350 on a big £50 to £70 contract with 5 months to go - could be a steal!

It is weird how that seems to be the way now - throw away society! LOL

However... whilst I was logged in I just checked my account and found this...

Free 3GB of data for me - worth checking!

When they let me go my next contract was with O2 lol, but I'm tied till next April. This tarrif change doesn't affect contract length it said so win win

Good good - was a little worried that there may have been a sting in the tail. Well done - should be a good early start to your weekend!

Thanks @niceroundpound

I know direct can be pricier most of the time, but this deal would benefit those guys on expensive contracts that need to wait 4 or 5 months for another contract, potentially saving £200 odd line rental.
My wife's contract is due to expire in February and she is on a £52 contract. If she renews now it'll save her £260 line rental and she can have the iPhone 8 for £89 upfront and £48 line rental - which is better for her,

Might be better for someone else too.....

Not much good in my experience ive just gone back to Three who gave me 8gb , unlimited calls and texts for £33 per month with a handset i was after, compared to o2 3gb, unlimited calls and texts for £40 per month on retention offer !? lol so i gave o2 my 30 days notice yesterday.

Its not the first time ive left o2 due to poor offers on contract renewals.

As the OP said good for people with £150 odd remaining contract, who would like to upgrade early. o2 does not have good upgrade offers but they have sweet refresh deals, many people here benefit from. Hot!

Is this saying that it will convert your contract to an o2 Refresh contract?
In other words you just pay off the new phone and your sim turns to a 1 month rolling contract which you can immediatly cancel?

Yes O2 doesn't seem to have good retention team.

Yes, that was up here as a deal a while ago and I got the same thing then.

I have a 6s 64gb at £30 a month with 3gb data, best upgrade offer they have on an S8 is over £50 a month with money up front. Which is a terrible idea.
