I would hope they were free, considering Gutenburgh was making this stuff available 10 years ago. Do they add anything to these or is it just the .pdf format?

edit: Having looked at Frankenstein, I can see that they stick thier logo on every other page in the top right hand corner and on the facia. Otherwise straight text. They charge for a 'tagged' copy which would presumably have some kind of structure.

Not sure what you clicked on, but the tagged copies are free too.
As for the PlanetPDF logo, you get what you pay for, which in this case is nothing :-D

quality - easy to do and no registration required !!!! cheers

Free ebooks have been around for over a decade now. I think the best site for downloadable free ebooks is 'Feedbooks': ]http//ww…om/.

awesome find. may read some of these to my primary school class (in dribs and drabs of course) in future. HEAT

As Robovski said, Gutenberg are also worth a look. They've been going for quite some time and they're pretty hard to beat for free literature.

nothing better than reading a book made of actual paper, if you ask me, but nevertheless, this is free.. hot!

I agree, but e-paper devices like the Sony Reader, Kindle and iLiad are very attractive alternatives. For those who haven't seen one it uses a display which mimics an ordinary printed page almost perfectly using electronic ink rather than a backlit lcd display. Waterstones and John Lewis to name a couple usually have one on display if you'd like to try one. They're very expensive at the moment, but still tempting.
I've got an ordinary PDA/phone with a few books on it simply because it fills time when you find yourself stuck in a queue, waiting for kids to finish a class or wife to stop shopping.....

Is it possible to read these on a DS please?

I think there are ways of reading ebooks on a DS, you would need a cartridge like M4 Simply or something. I read ebooks on iRex Iliad. Amazing device:

Suppose its because the item is not really appealing. I mean if it was a business going to send you a copy of the item printed as a book then it would be much more meaningful. All you get is a PDF file to download and personally i dont find it appealing to sit at a PC reading a e-book.

Great find. Some good books on here

i also prefer books
i've got a few of these like war and peace, anna karenina, odyssey and crime and punishment in Wordsworth Classics which only cost £2 a pop. Well, it was around £4 for war and peace and anna karenina i think, considering the size...
good deal though if you have an ebook reader and prefer it to paper books

If you print the book the paper anmd ink will cost more than buying it from OXFAM
