Free entry to Eden Project Saturday morning via parkrun

So I just read this tip via my running club's Facebook page; if you do the Eden Project parkrun you get free entry. Once you're in, you're in.

Thought that was a bargain.

It's probably assumed most regular runners have a yearly ticket anyway but if you're a tourist who can get around 5k then this could save a bit.

I've no clue if this was mentioned in the new year parkrun thread but couldn't see a separate thread. Please delete if duplicate.

it's also free entry this weekend for Devon & Cornwall teaching staff plus a few more categories of locals - if anybody's interested I'll look it up
Not sure abt this. If this is not official offer from Parkrun or Eden project, is this not abuse of courtesy extended by Eden project. As regular parkrun participant, I would hate to bring the event to disrepute and it would be a shame if Eden stops the event if misused. The run is free if participating not to visit the attractions after the run.

Moreover, if anybody like me, why would you mare the pleasant experience of enjoying beautiful garden by walking around like sweaty headband.

As a regular visitor to Eden Project, I can assure you there is absolutely no concern here. Eden Project are desperate to get visitors in over winter as the outside gardens look poor (naturally) and whilst the tropical biome is always good, the Mediterranean biome is out of season so rather scant/ patchy. They make a fat profit on food plus would hope to get a few 'freebie' visitors skating for extra income. They offer free weekend entry to locals in various jobs/ clubs all through the winter, not through their generosity (though it is a good initiative) but because it brings in extra income (ie non-ticket income). Plus they hope some of you will be encouraged to visit again in the spring/ summer.
Visited as a kid, love it and hope it all the best. The one thing that has stuck with me and still can't get over is that why have we not implemented using rain water as toilet water still?

Probably because it stains the pristine whiteness of your loo ceramic! If you remember, the rainwater loos always look a bit dirty so they have a sign up saying this is a natural effect of using rainwater to flush.

I remember, but it's something you'll be pooping in, i feel it's a bit ridiculous asking for clean water to do your business in.
Each to their own, but have never understood why people pay fairly handsomely to walk round a glorified garden centre, never mind travel from the other end of the country to do so. We took the kids down to Hangloose last summer and flew over it, but never actually went in. There are places near us that have tropical greenhouses and, whilst it's fun for a bit, we can't wait to get out. Please enlighten me as to the appeal of the place.

Sounds like you’ve already made your mind up. Like any tourist attraction, it isn’t for everybody, and it sounds like you’re in that camp.:{

Eden has really lost its way. Limited entertainment value and very poor information/educational value. Just a theme park designed to extract the tourist dollar these days. Where did their principles go?
And overpriced. Very overpriced.
Guys everything is 'overpriced' in the UK. Because of the weather, HEATING is a huge cost to households and businesses, its a huge overhead.

slightly off topic -Just recently come back from Dubai. The metro stations were absolutely sparkling, you could literally eat food off the platform - super clean! why? because Dubai pays 20 immigrants from South Asiain immigrants £2/hr therefore 8 immigrants cost £16 hour and hence the platfoms are continually clean, tidy and refreshed. Today at my tube station there was one staff member probably on roughly the same rate £16/hr and there was coffee cups, graffitti, urine smell etc what a difference.

Understand shouldnt exploit humans - so how can we get enough labour at a reduce rate? well disciplining those jailed should do more for the community: clean roads, cut grass on road roadside, clean tube stations, clean hospital roads of debris, snow, help with HS2 etc. do the crime, do the time (+LABOUR!)
I'd rather pay thanks. The point is to support the project, not to freeload
Hi Vegan runner, saw this and commented but will add here: There's a load of people who'd go and then think "ooh I'll get a pasty" or check out the gift shop, so Eden will make money no matter what

Hi!

Don't mention the V word! Gets people riled up here.

To others, I was in two minds if to post here (didn't think it would go hot due to the 5k factor) but I'm in the camp of "have a pasty, visit the gift shop". If it becomes a burden then the organisers will change it. If the benefits out weigh then win win.
Awesome, thanks
I've been told you have to get a parkrun time of under 22 minutes to get free entry

I haven't done this but the fb group I referenced didn't seem to suggest this - and most in our running club will be over this. That would be too fast for most people. I put a screen shot of the route in which is inside the complex so how they kick out those who are +22 mins I don't know. Plus parkrun are an inclusive bunch so excluding all but elites wouldn't be in their ethos I think.

Again, I don't know. I'm surprised of the heat - thought it would just be one of those 50 degree threads that will interest a few who search "eden". So now I feel a little bad I was low on the research.

That person is trying to have a laugh, parkrun page states: "Full access to Eden Project. Free entry for parkrunners and spectators at the time of the event only." no mention of any time or anything, obviously!

Nothing like a dictatorship and some slave labour to get your juices flowing!
