Edinburgh Zoo is set to open its doors to the public for free, for the first time in its history, in honour of St. Andrews Day. The Zoo will be joining dozens of other visitor attractions around Scotland who are participating in the Scottish Governments Visit for Free initiative on Sunday 30 November.

Edinburgh Zoo welcomes around 650,000 visitors a year and expects that the opportunity to visit for free will be popular with both new and returning visitors. As well as having the chance to see over 1,000 animals, visitors will be treated to daily delights such as the world-famous penguin parade and new indoor enclosures such as Rainbow Landings and Budongo Trail.

David Windmill, Chief Executive of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which owns Edinburgh Zoo, said:

We are really pleased to be part of the St Andrews Day celebrations and the Visit for Free initiative is a wonderful opportunity for us to show visitors how much we have achieved in the last few years. As a charity we are taking a risk by having a free day but its a chance to welcome members of the public that perhaps havent been for a while or have never been at all.

Were anticipating that we will be quite busy so we recommend that people arrive early to avoid disappointment in case we reach our maximum capacity.

Id forgotten about that. Cute wee things - well worth doing.:)

Edinburgh Zoo is well worth a visit, the penguins and the big cats are particularly lovely.

It's normally pretty expensive, so that's a great deal when you have no idea where to take the kids before all the christmas stuff starts. It'll be BALTIC up at the top though...

thanks !
