How is it free?

Not quite free when you have to pay for the pass? Still, I didn't know this existed and it would be worth the money if you were planning on visiting a few places in one day.

Is the price a secret or something?

nice try .but the title is misleading

1 Day Adult Pass £39.00
1 Day Child Pass £26.00

So, £130 for a family of 4 (less 5% of course) for a one day pass. I'll pass.

Just how many places do you think you can visit in one day? A proper visit to the Tower on its own takes 4-5 hours. Add in travel time across the city, so at best two attractions before they close. Which won't cost £39 at full price under any circumstances.

There are more pricing options other than the 1 day ticket - but you'd need to get the 3 or 6 day ticket to be quids in:

1 Day Adult Pass £39.00
1 Day Child Pass £26.00

2 Day Adult Pass £54.00
2 Day Child Pass £40.00

3 Day Adult Pass £65.00
3 Day Child Pass £45.00

6 Day Adult Pass £89.00
6 Day Child Pass £62.00

I still don't see it as a great deal. If you're visiting London for a holiday, a lot of the places on your must see list are free anyway (British Museum, National Gallery, The Tate, Science and Natural History Museums, V&A, National Maritime Museum). I'm not even sure why the ticket lists the Tate and the National (unless it's for special exhibitions).

Sure you can spend a lot of money in London. But I think you'll really have to be going some to make this ticket worth its price.

Work in a place that see these everyday. They are a rip off aimed at the poor tourest that have never visited London before. It works out that they are actually paying over the odds on entry prices for the attractions.
