FREE EYE TEST AT TESCO

Free eye test in store at Tesco. Not sure if nationwide or how long for but was in the Durham Road store at Stockton on tees today and discovered this. They also have the usual buy one get one free on designer frames, similar to specsavers i think.

I think it is nationwide as the Trowbridge one has been this way since it opened it's opticians about a year back.

Been doing this for ages

I didn't know! Thanks, hot!

Well shame it wasnt posted on here then, like Cassie whose comment is below yours, it was news to me.

I took advantage of the free eye test in Northampton, great service - very impressed. I then bought two pairs of designer glasses and was given an aditional £10 off each pair - including the free pair! Clubcard points too.

Thanks for your support, cant think why people quote awful negative messages some times, there is no need for it, we all try to help one another.

Do you get a prescription with it?

So that you can then buy your glasses cheaper online?

:whistling:

Yes you do, I was really surprised when I went there and the optician just handed me the prescription and then left me to my own devices - not even an attempt to sell me any frames.

I then bought a couple of pairs of Oakley frames from ebay (£55 each) and got them reglazed at selectspecs.com - excellent prices and free multiple coatings (anti-scratch, anti-reflection, etc.) as standard

It's time for mine!

I took a Tesco Value eye test the other day. Only cost 72p. They gave me a certificate that states that I have two eyes, and they both work. ;-)

Do they fill the prescription in fully, the wife had an eye test at specsavers last year but they left an important bit off.when she ordered off the net they were wrong ,They did replace with the right ones after the wife measured the distance between her eyes.

I didn't know about this either - thank you.

Do you have to book it in advance?
and how come it cost you 72p?

Free eye tests!

Come on folks - how were they meant to read it otherwise?!?! :w00t:

And remember if you buy a sim card - they send your eyes back free.

i'm an optician that works in tesco from time to time. they do a free eye test for six weeks after they open a new store, stockton is new. And considering they have plans to open another 70 in twelve months in Tesco Extra stores, there are a lot of free eye tests to be had.

After the free eye tests, a lot of the stores run a free eye test when you buy glasses anyway, and the test is normally only £10, so considering they do complete glasses from £20, thats an eye exam and glasses for £20!! a lot f internet sites will struggle to do that. you also get your clubcard points too!

thats cool im from trowbridge

You have bad eyesight, I recommend these expensive glasses for you...

Heat added anyway, freebies are always good... no, no they're not. So this is fine as long as they don't stab your eyes out and it's a trained optician, not a shelf stacker with a torch.

Going to see if my local do it for free tomorrow

cheers OP

Think you need to go to Tescos

Its worthwhile mentioning eye tests are free for everyone in Scotland, not just in Tesco.

To book an eye test call at Tesco the number is 0845 6013479. According to SayNoTo0870, 0161 9427700 is an alternative number - useful for those who are going to be using their free minutes on a mobile.

Not many people know this but if you're employed and work with VDU (computer screens) for more than a few hours a day then legally your employer MUST pay the cost of your eye test.

SO, check with your employer if they have a voucher scheme setup with an optician already (some large employers tend to strike a deal with an optician chain). If not then go see your normal optician and charge your employer the cost of the test.

They have to pay it, it's the law.

Hence I've not paid for my eye tests for the last 12 years.

im a optical assitant at specsavers and the PD (pupil distance) tends to be measured by us when a patient decides to buy glasses, the opticians usually do not do this. The prescription consists of the sphere, cylinder, and the axis. You will only have a cylinder and axis number is you have an astigmatism.
I suggest that when u have a eye test ask the optician to take a PD measurment, ur within ur rights to ask. that way if you do request glasses from the internet you will not be stuck on this question.
I hope this helps a little bit!!

Free Eye test in Bristol too, big signs as you walk in now advertising

Just had free eyetest at there Wigan branch. Would not give me a pd as i wanted to buy the glasses online . Saw some nice bench glasses but were for £99 ended up buying them from ]Ispectacle for less than half there price :whistling:

free eye tests sound good.asda do them some times too. the pd _measurement you are asking about, is not actually part of the test and so does'nt have to be given to you. some places charge £15 just for this.
