Eye tests should be free for everyone all the time as regular check-ups can help spot health issues.

Best i pop down the train station. 5 minute walk has to be worth £20. Heat.

If a Tesco near you has an opticians their eye tests are always free. This is useful if you've not got one nearby though

They are in Scotland (funded by Government) but not England?

The advert above the voucher is for kids glasses.

I thought kids got free eye tests anyway.

Have you ever noticed how people who work in opticians all seem to have poor eyesight!
Meaning, they are either wearing glasses or contact's. hmmm

Kids do under the NHS. This must be a voucher for their private service.

yeah ive talked about this before. its weird ive never seen anyone who works in an opticians who doesn't wear glasses/contacts

true story: a few years back i went into my opticians for some new glasses. i just wear standard normal glasses instead of where's wally glasses or ones with advertising hoardings on the side. And this particular time the owner/main optician guy was helping me pick out some new glasses and he said to me, if i came to him for a job wearing the glasses i had on at the time , he wouldn't give me a job. i couldn't find an answer for such a ridiculous comment. the dumbest thing was id bought those glasses from that store the previous year

so maybe glasses is a job requirement, probably for advertising purposes

Under 16s get a free NHS eye test anyway.

Ageism ....

Under 16s get a free eye test don't they?

I have three children, all under 16, all wear glasses and all get free sight tests every six months on the NHS. I therefore fail to see the benefit of this voucher.

Under 16s get free eye tests anyway - this is simply a con to grab your custom.

U16s get free eye tests regardless. (I work in an opticians) this is just to get you to go into the store.

As regards the comment of "all workers in opticians wear glasses" that's not entirely true.

I don't need any glasses and it sure as hell isn't a requirement for you to work there. However, I do wear a pair on occasion and we are encouraged to as nothing demonstrates a product better than seeing someone use it the self. New coatings, new frames etc, when they come in some places are advised to wear them to get patients to upgrade to better quality lenses.

It's just cheap, but effective, advertising at the end of the day.

Sorry for the double post, it won't let me edit mine.

You'd actually be shocked as to how many parents don't know eye tests are free for their kids. I'd also advise you get your child's eyes tested just before they start school as if they do need glasses this will hamper their progress in school and cause them to be left behind the rest of the class. There is also something we call the "critical period" which is up until the child turns 8 where glasses are able to correct their vision without the need of surgery and they may not need to wear their glasses in their teen years. So please get your child tested regardless of whether you think their eyesight is good or not because don't forget, if they do have a problem the kid won't know as they'll perceive that problem to be normal vision when in fact it isn't normal.

Sorry for long essay!
