Free Freeview TV to your mobile, laptop, wifi device, or PC

18 FREEVIEW CHANNELS AVAILABLE TO MOBILE DEVICES AND PCs (don't use on mobiles without unlimited downloads)

For mobiles, first you need to download the Skyfire mobile browser. Its developers have concentrated on speed and supporting streaming, so its perfect for displaying streamed TV. For normal PCs or over wifi your standard browser will probably be fine.

Skyfire works through their servers. It detects your phone type when you download it, and formats your viewing for your specific phone.

You normally see the page in under 10 seconds, although as a poor res full webpage, you then need to zoom in to what you want to see - but it is faster than what else seems on offer.

skyfire.com/

The browser is pretty good for streaming content, and so if you view this site - it enables streaming TV to your phone if you register for the site. A poster in the thread suggested I should ask you to mention my user ID when you register, which looks like I could get rep there - my username is "stv".

tvcatchup.com/

Its going to be heavy on data, so really best with wifi - although works almost as well in a good 3G reception area.

Alternately you can use the site alone for TV to your PC over broadband.

Needless to say - this is only available online only.

Even if your data package claims to be unlimited you need to check if unlimited is as low as the 24meg virgin claim - as its then onto a couple of quid per meg after that - so you could pay virgin hundreds or thousands of pounds a month if you used this heavily. So check your limits and keep a track of your bandwidth if the limit is low.

Another suggestion, although someone has posted it wont work abroad is - DONT TRY TO USE ANY STREAMING DATA WHEN ROAMING. With some companies charging a tenner a meg - a days TV might cost more than your holiday.

Any rep for this thread should go to SirTumble, who posted details on my Nokia E71 thread, and I expanded upon them here.

repped for the humour in picture.

wow!
thanks - this is amazing, i wasn't expecting much and thought it sounded well dodgy - aparrently not, all legit now.
Installed the desktop player on windows 7 - works great - can't wait for recording features and proper media center integration.

if you post up your username, people will put it in when they register (to thank you?). not sure if you actually get anything though. great find mate

Can't wait for the next stages of the desktop player although the player has already been delayed for months so I'm not holding my breath for recording to come soon,

cool, H&R added

This is pretty cool. I like the support and the roadmap so far.

I've been using www.zattoo.com (App) tho lately the adverts are getting very annoying. But the quality is quite good.

Second vote for Zattoo - although, it doesn't support mobile devices. Very good quality, and the lag is not bad (a few seconds behind live transmission)

I use Zattoo as well just a shame my phone isn't compatible with skyfire

I've been using this for sometime on my pc, you find that some channels that can be problematic on Freeview (ie five) come through fine on TVcatchup

 for me .........
tvcatchup.com/ worked on my mac !! Thanks for the post.

works a treat thanks!

OK - I never realised you could do that - I guess I can get rep there too.

My username is "stv".

I will add it to the main post too.

Just viewed it on computer, that is the coolest thing ever! heat and rep! =] just wish it was compatible with my phone =[

Don't understand HOW it's legit when they show stuff like US imports that get taken out of the official ITV.com live web streams... but I have no moral qualms when it's stuff you could see on freeview anyway.

Great - got it loaded can see tv but cant hear it even though sound full blast on computer.

Do I need to download anything else to get the sound working??

But then surely you are more likely to have access to a TV than a pc and … But then surely you are more likely to have access to a TV than a pc and internet thus making this void.

These days I'm even more likely to have my 3g/wifi mobile device and hotels often don't have all 18 of these channels and

I read somewhere that they were in some legal wranglings with the TV companies over this when they first launched but that was a while ago does not like anything has happened since.

This is pretty sweet Heat, Rep & stv all done cheers
if only you could watch it in fullscreen.
Also would be cool if you could pause it haha :P

Edit: Found fullscreen just right click the picture and toggle fullscreen

Yes, each household is required to have one if watching TV as it is being broadcast. .

It's a web site that uses Flash, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work on Mac and even Linux. Even the desktop app is Adobe Air, you can probably run that too!

This is crying out for an iPhone app, this is the closest thing to Hulu for the UK

does this work on the iphone?
