Cheers bro you got a link ?
You might want to include some details about what this offers over more popular free alternatives like Handbrake.

Unless it's a good piece of software, a free video converter isn't a hot deal.

Meh.

The Giveaway cannot be updated, but a new giveaway usually comes along soon enough.
This one is a pretty competent tool, has Nvidia + Intel graphics assistance (but not AMD, I forget which one has all 3).
Also has a video downloader that works for a number of sites.

Now I'm just off to replace my 5.9.8 freebie with 5.9.9 freebie - and dump the less recent MacX version too.
I suppose technically this isn't a free full licensed copy as it's not upgradable like the full licensed version is.

But, these are given away so often that you can continually go from non-upgradable version to non-upgradable version without any trouble. It must be in double figures already for the number of times this has been given away in 2017.

Not a bad bit of software to have around, the DVD ripper is the same and given away just as often.

Use handbrake, it's free and way more powerful/configuratble....

Anyone recommend software to edit scenes from an MKV without re encoding?

Most popular formats, true.
x265, and various mkv files - heart attack.

Not sure if anything would do that directly but mkvcleaver might help you get the original file from within the mkv container, then as you would for whichever filetype that may be.
Others will surely have further/better options though?

Depends what you mean by edit.
this:

will allow you to trim bits out of pretty much any format and not re encode.
It does not have advanced editing functions though

I have been using the Christmas giveaway copy for a while. It is the first video converter I have found which doesn't mess up some of my bluray rips when compressing them to mp4. It is also extremely fast compared to software I have used in the past as it can offload the conversion process onto your graphics card.
Does this rip region 1 DVD's on a region 2 drive, or is there any software that will rip any region - regardless of what drive you have in your computer? thanks.

Why should the op go to all the trouble of getting the ins & outs of the software let alone other software's he's not even interested in? That's your job you lazy so & so.

The op merely pointed out a deal to you & it's up to YOU to decide if it fits your purposes.

Jeez.
thanks OP

Not free.

There must be free software out there that can trim a video file without conversion.
