Free Full Versions of Microsoft Software for students

DreamSpark is simple, it's all about giving students Microsoft professional-level developer and design tools at no charge so you can chase your dreams and create the next big breakthrough in technology - or just get a head start on your career.

You get free software and free training material.

they have added more ways for you to verify as a student, and also more education institutions. there is even a way to verify by using a .ac.uk email address to make things even more simple!

Software Includes:

Server 2008 R2
Server 2008
Server 2003
Visual Studio 2010
SQL Server 2008

and loads more!

Currents methods of student verification:
Activation Code
ISIC Card
Email: (requires a .ac.uk email address)
Verified through your school

I'm personally glad they have now included the email verification, the verify through my school option was a pain since my uni signed up for verification through the athens system which I had no idea what my login was and had to go find my uni IT dept to get it for me.

Hot deal from me.

Sort of like a drug dealer giving you freebies to hook you on crack, then upping the price once you're hooked. i.e you train in Uni/ college etc on their software for free (they know you'll probably get a hookey copy anyway for home) and you invest time on learning to use the kit and then leave for a job where you have to buy it full whack to be legit, but you dont care then as you dont pay for it. Good business from Microsoft really.

Thanks. Extremely hot.

They should make the full top notch versions free for home use, but restricted on compilation.

PHP looks archaic in comparison

Its nice. Just wished they gave us SQL Server 2008 Enterprise rather than Developer.

There's a reason it's free. You train up on something and you'll find it much harder to retrain on something else. Once you're out in the world you have to pay for your software licenses... If you're hooked on .NET and SQL Server, you (or your employer) pay through the teeth for it.

Get yourself a hotter deal by not aiming your career at this crap. Pick something open source, and a course that doesn't focus on locking you into one way of thinking.

That was over a year ago, thought I would update with the new software they giving away now. also new methods of verification for students without having to jump through hoops for it.
They also had free microsoft certification exam as well, but that offer has now ended.

Even for the server operating systems alone its worth it. these licenses aren't cheap if you want to buy it.

Why's that? Enterprise and Developer editions are functionally equivalent.

tried with a random ac.uk email address.
microsoft would promptly send you a verfication code.
HOT!!

I don't think that this particular license is really intended for 'Production' use. Don't overlook the fact that SQL Server Express (2008 R2) is free to all, and can handle databases up to 10GB in size.
