Just wanted to highlight these again, because they can be super handy for get togethers and what not. Sainsbury's used to run one too, although it looks like the info has since been removed from site.

Tesco - You'll need to check in store about free glass hire
Waitrose - still offering hire options too - Here
Morrisons require a £20 deposit which is refunded on return - Breakages 50p glass - Hire info page - Here

What type of glasses can you hire from Morrisons?

- Wine glasses
- Sherry glasses
- Tumblers
- Champagne flutes

How many glasses can I request to hire?
There is no limit to quantity, apart from how many glasses the store has available to hire. Each store normally has over 100 glasses of each type in stock.

How much notice do I need to give to hire glasses?
We need a minimum of 24 hours’ notice however since our stores have a limited supply of glasses available to hire, we recommend that you book with as much notice as possible – 3/ 4weeks notice is advised, particularly during busy times like Christmas or New Year.

Nice idea but surely everyone has glasses? Seems a bit pointless.

It's not for you then.
Assuming having a low budget wedding/family get together/classmates reunion/any events with guests outnumbered your stock glasses at home?

suppose so, just seems a bit naff borrowing glasses, would sooner ask people who were coming if I was that desperate rather than hiring them.

So you're having 100 people for a party/event, it makes more sense to ask all 100 to bring a glass, keep hold of it and make sure they take it home over picking them up from a supermarket, them all being the same type and having them ready for the guests to arrive?

Simple. Need 100 glasses. Provider provides. For free, if you got your booze from them. What's not to like?
E
( * NOTE I find pint glasses and wine glasses with thin stems get trashed. So I buy some of those, to avoid the £1 per glass replacement charge that tends to get levied).

Are you telling me you've never been asked to bring your own glass and plate to a party?

what kind of people do u mingle with but then again it's probably differnet for different people

why not get the disposable ones for a 1p a glass no washing and no return journeys to morrisons probably cost more and transporting these will be quite difficult won't it for large amounts.
