FREE Go cycle bike lights according to the Kingston Guardian:

Kingston Council will be at train stations handing out Go Cycle bike lights and night-time cycling safety advice.

The team will be at Kingston station on November 8, New Malden station

on November 15 and Surbiton station on November 22, between 4pm and

7pm.

Go Cycle sustainable transport planner Dan Quan said: “It’s important

as the shorter days begin that cyclists are doing all they can to ensure

they are as visible as possible on the roads. We have a mixed cycling

community in Kingston and while seasoned riders may be confident cycling

at night, we’re keen to ensure those who are newer to cycling are fully

equipped for cycling in the winter months.”

No idea wok Go cycle bike lights are or if gonna be any good but might be handy for all dem bikers @Kingston.

No idea wok cycling advice they gonna give either - "don't fall of your bike" ?

Big it up 2 d Sarf West London Crew.

Cynical view, they've probably got a job lot cheap or maybe they've been sponsored. What's the cost of a few lights compared to a cyclists life? In fact if you're a bean counter how many bike lights can you get for the same price it costs the NHS to pin a shattered leg??

I guess the should switch off the streetlights too using your logic.

They are way ahead of you... Elmbridge and surroundings have already started to switch off streetlights (apart from major roads) at midnight ... so they are ‘saving’ lots of electricity

Good deal for those who can get it

I'd expect them to be frog style LED lights, got them handed out for free in my end of South East London before.
So at most £5 for the pair, hardly bank breakers. And as the point has been made, a far smaller cost to society/NHS than a preventable death or injury, or obesity and air pollution from the car use culture we have.

Cycling raises your core body temperature so cycling in cold weather is perfectly fine. I'd advise though that people invest in weather proof gloves when temperatures drop below 0 degrees and have something warm to put on when they've stopped cycling.

It's not like we have really cold weather in this country anyway, try cycling in Norway or Sweden during the winter, countries which incidently have much higher cycling rates than we do.

Considering the amount of council tax Kingston residents have to cough up compared to neighbouring boroughs,
it's just the council spending the surplus.

Kingston Council can waste money but they’re amateurs compared to Surrey County Council.

If you knew just how profligate Surrey County Council is on a routine basis it would make you wince.

Bike lights? Up here , up't north, just stick a candle on't crossbar, warms mush at same time :-)

Ah look, councils handing out free stuff whilst protesting they about cuts.

Not really.
They give out cheapo bike lights and then switch off the street lights, thereby still saving money.
