FREE! Google Camera with HDR+ Ported - Unlease the Ca

Warning: I recommend against using this if you already own top of the range handsets from LG, Samsung, Google that are released in the past 2 years as they would already be highly optimised on stock rom and stock app.

If you own a cheap handset and got nothing to lose then read on!

Requirements:
- Snapdragon based Handsets (only certain ones)
- Rom with Camera HAL3 enabled. (Tested on Redmi Note 4X running official Lineage OS 14.1, should work with handsets like Lenovo P2)

Due to some works of miracle some developer is able to HDR+ running on non-Nexus/Pixel handsets. For those who doesn't know the HDR+ feature is what single-handedly make the Google Pixel phones some of the best camera phones around.

It won't turn your budget phone to a Pixel phone, but the improvement on my Redmi N4X is tremendous. For reference my previous phone was the Nexus 5X.

With HDR+ my N4X now has:
- Free Image Stabilisation through HDR+ so shaky-hands and no OIS less of an issue!
- (Often) more accurate exposure
- (Often) more accurate colour rendition
- (Often) sharper and more detailed shots.
- Far far more usable images in low light.
- I can actually capture some still pics of my kids! (with HDR+ turned to ON instead of AUTO)

Problem is the port is still quite buggy. Certain modes don't work. Hopefully it will be ironed out somewhere down the line.

It's free, seems a great heads up, yet iced with no comments - simply RUDE!!!

I like heat added

I'll give this a go too. The note 4x is a great phone but has a bad camera, hopefully this will make it a little better. And it's free - hot.

A "buggy port" of an XDA mod is hardly a hot UK deal. Of all the thousands of different XDA mods and hacks over the years, and I have enjoyed many, what makes this one worthy of heat on this particular forum?

If you look at how often people here complain about the poor camera on their Redmi/Lenovo P2/Smart Ultra 6 etc, this is the real holy grail of camera woes. Those phones have adequate hardware but often let down by poor/lack of software integration.

I'm posting really to raise the attention for the developer/developers to accelerate the progress of the port. Have a nice day anyway.

Hmm, tried to install but didn't work, says something like app conflicts with another of the same name.

I'm trying this on a Redmi Note 4 with lineage os installed 14.1 The camera app I have seems to be another version 4.3...something.

Any ideas?

Completely missing the point! It is rude not to at least say why you think it is cold - I didn't say it deserved heat, but the OP took the time to detail the post, so the least the naysayers could do is take a few seconds to explain their thoughts (or in the case of many on here, try to prove that they actually have a better reason than following the crowd).

You need to uninstall the default camera app on it. If it's a system app you need to root (flash magisk) and uninstall it using a system app remover.

Great post will try on my nexus 5 and do some before and after when I get some time.

Might as well just get it from play store, HDR+ only works with high end processers.

Ta.

I'm new to installing lineage etc but I thought my phone would already be rooted as part of that process. I know one of my payment apps doesn't work because it says it doesn't support rooted phones but the system uninstaller app I just installed says my phone isn't rooted!

Tried kingo root which didn't work (got to 90% and failed).

Not sure installing this camera app is worth all this!

Why does this require root when other camera apps don't?

Annoyingas I'd like to test it on my g5 plus since I seem to be having problems with the default Motorola camera software doing weird processing to half my images that a factory reset didn't help.

Maybe your bootloader is still unlocked this will stop payment apps working. Or I think some ROMs don't use certain security signatures and that may stop it too-i seem to get the banking apps working with ROMs with "official" in their name. Android pay needs a locked bootloader.

It's definitely worth the effort. Much easier to just flash magisk and use magisk manager to manage root. Took me less than 5 minutes!

It doesn't require root but need root to remove the default LOS camera on RN4X which conflicts with the .apk.

You may need wait on Moto phones because they apparently use 32bit libs rather than 64bit so the camera won't work (for now)

Big thread on Reddit, check out the comparisons yourself

Phew! Did it finally. Did take a little longer but did it slowly and carefully! Flashed magisk via twrp, installed a system app uninstaller, removed the stock camera, rebooted, then installed this one. Works well.
Cheers for the help.

If you remove the stock Google camera, and you needed to reinstall it later, how would you do it? It's not available in play store

This working just with android 7.x.x
