An environmental disastrous way of selling and consuming 2 almonds worth …An environmental disastrous way of selling and consuming 2 almonds worth of goodness, so say a consumer programme on TV. Still, 2 almonds free is a freebie.

It has 43g of almonds which is about 35 Almonds, not alot but still more than 2. Don't make silly comments.
If this gets people to drink less Cow's milk then it's better for the environment.

Still, 2 almonds free is a freebie. The company claims recyclable plastic but has no evidence of its recyclable plastic being actually recycled (the Local Government Association, stated last week, only 9% of recyclable plastic is actually recycled in this country).

This is approximately 90% water, the profit margin on this must be immense.

Of course when they are selling the item at full price

It doesn't matter though, the point imo is to have an alternative to milk and almond "milk" fits the bill, it is far better to consume less than more nuts. As otherwise there would be way too much fat. I agree the value may not be there but own brand is what I buy, much cheaper!
Bargain! And reasonably tasty. The oat one is even nicer.

Water and carbon footprint comparison for Soya Vs almond milk

Also the link about the 2% almonds is for other brands. This has 5.8% of almonds.
No carton of almond milk product contains 2 almonds unless you found a 125ml carton of almond milk.

Your local might not stock them either then - offer shows but then when you are logged in it shows no products but log out and you see them - very sneaky!

It's just an estimate. It's a 750ml bottle and 5.8% of it is almonds which equals about 43.5g. On average an almond weighs 1.2g. 43.5/1.2=36.

You maths method is correct, however, a gross assumption error, you haven't taken off the weight of the almond residues (solid) that's discarded during extraction.

You need to subtract the almond residue/solids weight from the initial weight of almonds. Moreover , you need to determine whether it is the dry or wet weight of almonds. Finally you need to find out whether 5.8% is weight or volume and what state the almond is in in the calculation.

Difficult to conclude depending on what you're measuring. As almond farming is very water intensive. One of the worst nuts to farm due to how much water is required.

*although i think the world should do less with cows/ bovine products as it takes a lot more that just water. And all the animal welfare issues etc etc. Although let's no go down that route of debate/arguments!
I think both almond and bovine farms are not ideal!

You said originally "It has 43g of almonds which is about 35 almonds..." , so you made up a claim on behalf of Innocent Drinks that Innocent Drinks did not make. Now you back track and say it is an estimate, nice of you to make your own calculation on behalf of the said company. Then you get likes on your unsubstantiated claim of 43g and 35 almonds that's not even made by Innocent Drinks, charming.

Alpro etc. were slammed by consumers including a lawsuit (Almond Freeze) of having 2% of almonds. Innocent is 5.8%, 3 times of woefully small amount of almonds is still small. TV consumer programme that I saw, the presenter had 2 almonds on her palm, though I cannot remember if that was for a cup or whole carton of drink. The internet recipes show typically 1 cup of dry almonds , before soaking overnight, to 4 cups of water , to make almond milk.

Great offer as it is free with a shop at Sainsburys, not worth it at full or half price plus recyclable plastic that may not even be recycled (Local Government Assoc. states only 9% of recyclable plastic is actually recycled in UK).

Almond milk: quite good for you – very bad for the planet..the click bait title.
5 gallons of water to grow one almond nut.

In those recipes they strain the liquid and the almond pulp is left over so only a fraction of the almonds are left in the liquid. I make my own too so I know the process. I use the almond pulp in other recipes.
The OP is for a free carton, I didn't write any that it's worth the £2.
I agree plastic packaging is bad.
Btw I haven't ordered this, I just saw it while browsing the Sainsbury's website.

Mon the blue cartons of milk.🐄
People are arguing how its good/bad compared to cow milk.
Friends its not for you then. My daughter is dairy and soy intolerant and i regularly use almond milk for her. May not be as nutritious as cow milk and she needs supplement like calcium etc (she is 3) bit some milk is better than nothing.
Bargain!!! Thanks OP

You are making the assumption that fats, and in particular fats in nuts are bad for you. This is because of inaccurate advice which we have been fed for years. Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Sugar does.

Its actually you who seem to be ignorant. Please read up on farming of almonds to understand @splender statement. There are plenty of videos on how they drilled till they couldn't find any water for these californian almonds. My point being: please read.
Redeemed! Having it in my coffee now
Hot for me free and thus is the best almond milk around contains a higher % of almonds compared to others and no added rubbish in theses.

40 nuts worth of fats is still bad for you, in this there are only a few nuts so it's not a problem and so yes the few nuts of fat are ok. Anything that makes you consume a higher quantity quicker cannot be good.

Unless you are following some kind of keto diet eating LOTS of fat is still not that great of an idea, even on keto I don't think you can be eating loads of nuts. I'm not saying fats are bad. I agree it's better than sugar,.
splender15 h, 46 m ago

Over 200 gallons of water to make 1L of cow's milk too.

I think the point is that you shouldn't drink almond milk if you're worried about the environment (so many better alternatives than Innocent's offering), but cow's milk is still way worse.
It’s quite good, but I make my own at home now with oats. It’s cheap and VERY easy. All you need is oats, water, blender and a sieve/muslin/nut milk bag.
