Some of my neighbours have had the Firemen round to do this, but they were all about 50 and rather rotund, so i'm not bothering lol

Hot...unlike the fire, hopefully.

Priceless find, this could save somebodies life.....Heat added (quickly put out)

Good idea, but seems a bit extreme (and wasteful) to send a fire truck round!!

So what do you think the fire truck should be doing when they are not at fires?

Fitting detectors and giving advice to stop your house burning down and people getting hurt seems a good idea to me.

my parents had this done a month ago and because they use a chip pan the firebrigade gave them a deep fat frier

We had this done a few years ago because they just came down the street knocking on everyones doors. They put 2 smoke alarms up next to our other 2 smoke alarms.

about 1-2 years later one started making an annoying chirping sound every so often indicating the batteries needed replacing. A few weeks later, the other one did too. Cant replace the batteries though, had to take them down and destroy them to shut them up!

Was in the newspaper a few months later saying lots of people were having the same problem and even though they are supposed to last 10 years they are only lasting 1-2 years.

The Firemen would probably have a fit in my house,no smoke alarms, extensions leads all over the show etc

You should really go out and buy a smoke alarm as soon as you can. Don't put it off or put it on a to do list. It is something you could regret for the rest of your life. (Lost a friend in a house fire (no smoke alarms)).

Agree with...

Should be top on your to-do list. Something really easy, quick and cheap (or call the fire brigade and its even easier, cheaper and quicker!) to do but it could SAVE YOUR LIFE

I'm pretty sure it's nationwide and obviously a very valuable service.

I know,i chucked them away when i decorated and never got anymore.:(

I live in Sussex.

I rang the fire service & got told they only do this for households that get benefits. As my wife & I work, we would only be sent advice leaflets on fire safety

Yes we shall all be punished for actually working ...as usuall!

Install your own, what a waste of resources (unless you're elderly and can't do it or afford to get someone to do it obviously).

Agree that Smoke Alarms save lives, if you are working but really can't afford alarms, I'm sure Fire Service would fit.

Some services have vulnerable person team that will issue fire retardent bedding, throws etc and if you are sensory impaired then they have specialist equipment, such as a vibrating alarm that goes under your pillow of you are hard of hearing.

I had to listen to someone burning in a fire until the fire service got there, it was too late, please please never take any chances.
