Free Instant Silver Membership @ Fly Bmi

Diamond Club, one of the world's most generous frequent flyer programmes, is delighted to offer you an exclusive welcome bonus. Join today and we'll offer you instant Silver membership.

* Exclusive lounge access - Diamond Club, Business and overseas executive lounges
* Premium Check-in desks at London Heathrow
* 20kg additional baggage allowance

This is handy for anyone likely to travel with BMI as it gives you a chance to have a few free beers in their lounges (or free porridge if it's early morning). There's a small chance of upgrades, and if you travel abroad you sometimes get the odd perk (priority boarding is about all I've ever had).

I think you get to earn miles, but I don't think the other 'benefits' work on baby ... no lounge access or extra baggage etc.

Additional BenefitsDo I get any additional benefits for example lounge … Additional BenefitsDo I get any additional benefits for example lounge access, priority seating, additional baggage? The partnership with bmibaby is a pure miles based relationship, therefore the above additional benefits do NOT apply to Diamond Club members travelling on bmibaby operated flights.Am I entitled to complimentary food inflight?bmibaby does not offer complimentary food inflight.

If you read further down on the bmi baby page it says:

Nice one but unfortunately they don't go to my destinations either.

Thank you!

Cheers!

Nice. Flying BMI Monday. I wonder if my membership will be active by then :-)

Can anyone tell me what the BMIBABY miles are worth? If I earn say 1500 miles, does that get me a european flight or won't that even get me a bus trip across the airfield?

EDIT: Found the answer - seems that for cheap BMIBABY flights, you get one flight 'free' (you have to pay the taxes & 'charges') with every 40 bought. Better than nothing (if you use the free flight at a time, e.g. Christmas, when the fair is more than the taxes - this assumes you don't get offered a flight January 5th instead of December 24th when you book your free flight - anyone remember the 'free flights to Europe' fiasco). That said, the silver membership is worth nothing if you only fly BMIBABY - you are better to take the 1000 bonus miles available if you sign up via flyBMI.com (effectively meaning you only have to fly 37 times to get your first 'free' flight).

No, 1500 miles will get you nowhere. However, I've travelled in first class to Los Angeles and will be travelling to Mauritius in first class this winter. If you take the odd flight with bmibaby then you're unlikely to earn much. However, BMI is a member of the 'Star Alliance' ... which means you earn miles on carriers such as United, US Airways and many more.

I've always been tempted to ask Bitterwallet if they'd be interested in an article on earning miles ... but I've always decided that it's a bit too niche. However, for those going on a 'once in a lifetime' trip (honeymoon, aniversary etc) there are some substantial savings to be had ... the flight I took to LA would have cost $30,000 ... I paid £900 ... I paid much more than an economy ticket, but I saved a fair amount on the 'real cost'.

I have a blue card, Can I upgrade to Silver card for free with this offer?

Just joined but for some reason I only had blue membership!

Will I receive an actual card in the post after joining?

Can I use the lounges with this card even if I am flying with a different airline? Or do I need the card and a valid boarding pass?

seems to have expired

Just to update ... there seems to be a link [Removed link as no longer working] which still works here. However, they seem to be 'on to us' as they closed the last link down. Feel free to sign up with this link bit please remember that it's no longer the 'freebie' it once was.
