(UPDATE 12/03/2020 Due to "unforeseen circumstances" a.k.a Coronavirus, the event has been postponed until a later date which is yet to be announce)

Smyths Toys are offering a free demonstration of the new LEGO theme Dots at all its UK stores with a free make and take build.

Advert for this event which starts 10am Saturday 14th March 2020, you get to make a design instore and take it home alongside a frame which looks to be made of cardboard. From what I getting from the advert you will be given a 4x4 plate and you can make a design out of 1x1 tiles which you can have a creative fun making.

No purchase is necessary and one per customer. The event starts 10am but is whiles stocks last.

LEGO Dots is a new theme debuting March 1st that is targeted towards both boys and girls that includes home accessories and jewellery, the initial wave will release with 9 new sets:

Definitely going myself even if its a few pieces of LEGO there still free in the end, plus I am quite fond of this new theme I think its a great concept for LEGO to jump into.

Also in the following stores there will be a Pokémon Trade & Play event on the 14th between 11am and 4pm at:

Basingstoke
Swansea
Tamworth
Staples Corner
Hedge End
Bournemouth
Fareham
Telford
Bolton
Glasgow

So the two events could make for a nice treat for the kids if your to go to those stores holding both events.

Cold from me, I'm afraid. I really don't like being negative as I'd love to support an actual bricks and mortar toy shop but, from personal experience, these Smyths Lego events are usually a shambles. Loads of people turn up and there's only a handful of freebies that aren't worth the fuel, time and effort you've wasted.
Not liking this new theme, tiny flat pieces are a beggar for those of us with sausage fingers!

My store is fairly tame with these events, and have plenty of stock, though I see where your coming from.

Fair comment - I can only speak for the Hull store.
If anyone around Worcester wants a taste of the new theme early a toy shop in Worcester already has the range available, Toys and Games of Worcester.

Managed to get two of the extra dots sets and so far got 13 of the 16 different printed tiles there are to collect

Here's an image of all 20 of my little printed tiles from those "blind bags"

Not exactly a kid, just a newfound Lego fan xD are they prejudiced during events or am I good?
Just keeping this in mind and I know this comment may sound stupid but please if your planning to go take some hand sanitizer with you and make sure your kids dont splutter over the make and take area not very nice and may spread a certain virus.

These events are aimed at kids but parents and adults are more than welcomed to join in on the event.

I'm sure most lego states a minimum age but the max is to 99, so unless you're 100 years of age you should be good
Heat added.
More plastic tat, my kids will love it

I went to a Lego movie one in Newport Wales (just coincidence that it was on when passing) and I thought it was great. Each child could pick a baggy with a Lego movie model in, and there were tables setup with 4 big boxes full of random bits of Lego. Kids could build whatever they wanted and take one model home each. Security were keeping and eye out for abuse but it was very generous overall, my lad made quite a large car/spaceship thing with wings and wheels and all sorts, probably £10 worth of blocks at a guess.

That's brilliant and I'm really happy you had a good experience with your son. As I said, I'm only commenting on my experiences at the Hull store.
A few events at selected stores that overlap this one in the following there is a Pokemon trade and play event:

Basingstoke
Swansea
Tamworth
Staples Corner
Hedge End
Bournemouth
Fareham
Telford
Bolton
Glasgow

On top of that World Book Day tokens are accepted until 29th March at all Smyths stores, so you could get rid of the tokens and get free LEGO at all Smyths stores and if you go to one of the stores mentioned above you'll get some Pokémon action. Plus those of Oldbury have a Dragon Ball Z experience on the 14th and 15th, which are also at Bristol and Liverpool but not on the 14th sadly.
Hey folks, Smyths have pulled the offer - sadly expired
Postponed until further notice. Worth keeping an eye out as its likely to be rescheduled for later in the year.
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I am sad to report this event has been put on hold, this is pressunably due to the increasing threat posed by Coronavirus.

I'm sorry to those who got their Hope's high for this event, I for one an disappointed.

This offer hopefully will be back on after the virus has peaked and it's safe to hold.
