thanks for posting

My son had some plastic £1 coins, when he was very little, and he used one to get a trolley. After we finished shopping, he was just putting the trolley back when someone grabbed it from him, thrust a real £1 coin in his hand and walked off briskly. I do hope he was not too upset later on when he found out.

i give a teen a £1 coin to save him taking trolley back. when i went to get the money out it was a pull ring off a can. fair play i pmsl little sod

HAHAHAHA these stories are funny

thanks

LOL

That happened to me. I took a trolley off someone and she happily passed it to me in exchange for a quid.

I didnt even notice when I returned the trolley but later in the week I went to Asda and looked at my pocket and it was a generic trolley token LOL

One day, I shall get my revenge !

They don't work. My trolley (car) still gets clamped when I park.

Brian Bedonde will be pleased.

If you don't want to ask for a free token then ask at a till for a pound coin in exchange for 2x50p's etc and they may give you one..

Super glue a 50p coin to the road and watch people fight for it

seems pointless putting the £1 lock thing on the trolleys, if they give u free tokens, then the scabs are still gonna push the trolleys to the council flat and leave outside, or park it in the local river

I was thinking the same. I thought the point of the pound coin box in the first place was as a (small) deterrent for that sort of casual scally-wagging.

I think the point of the token/coin is you put the trolley back in an allocated place and dont just leave it in the middle of the car park.

Plus, some of the new style trolleys wont go outside their allocated zone so you wont be able to push them outside the car park. They will just stop.

I use €1. This is of course equivalent to just 72p, so each time I go shopping snigger to myself as I get the trolley for 28p less than all you other saps!

Ah, but when we return ours, we get 28p more. Who's laughing now?

Tried this. They demanded it back. Cheapskates.

The reason for it is that by holding a trolley instead of a basket you will buy more.

Tbf that person might have had a bit of a "blonde" moment. I certainly dont want to trade my little trolley coin for £1, because it's kinda like a souvenir now (I got it from work. They gave it to every employee in the UK, but then I kinda left) so I dont wanna exchange that for £1!!

They have two years, most of the big chain supermarkets will be ordering new trolleys before then as a matter of course. All they will probably end up doing is having the €2 coin locks (possibly €1, those might be a little to small though) fitted. The new £1 coins should be big enough to activate those, and will probably reduce costs to supermarkets (I haven't looked, but I'll wager the Euro coin locks are cheaper. Economy of scale and all).

Or they could follow Morrison's lead and get rid of them completely. Then lazy people can leave them all over the car parks again, like they used to. Which is exactly what happens, because we have an abundance of bone idle people in this country that don't think anything is their responsibility, least of all putting trolleys neatly in the designated areas.

Nice, I'll hopefully get one tomorrow. Cheers OP...

I'll ask when I pop in tomorrow, thanks

These trollies weigh in at 7p per kilo. Money maker in Liverpool I hear.

Asked at till and they said they aren't doing this

20 cent coins work a treat in all trolleys

Dont worry they are. That little grey pot inbetween the tills. They are stored in there.
Ask someone again. Good luck.

Super glue a 50p coin to the road and watch people fight for it

Did that once when i was younger near my fornt door and watched 100s of people try to pick it up until one stubborn bloke kept kicked at it with his foot until it flew away at high speed and he had no idea where it went only for him to walk off as if nothing happened.

i got told to bring mine back!

When I was a kid I used my pocket money to buy 100 trolley tokens for a tenner or something that the time. Then used to "sell" them to people in the supermarkets for a quid. Of course they only found out later on. Nice bit of pocket money it was too. Lol
