lol usually happens to me,but at the moment they are every two weeks.

Happening most weekends now ... they must be making a shedload from their cut of the sale price in any case.

yes they are doing this every other week now. only good if you have an item to sell that needs a high starting price as 99p start items are free listing anyway. and if your item needs a high starting price ebay are going to take 10% of that if it sells plus paypal costs. i sell a lot on ebay but the cost are getting bad, i put it down to greed. wouldnt exactly call it a hot deal!

Thanks for the heads up. I have swag to shift

It's on like all the time. So it's not exactly amazing.
It's cold though as they should do a free FVF day or something.

Great, I will be able to relist my satnav unit that I "sold" last Sunday, but the timewaster has not paid for yet!

Same with a DVD box set I "sold" two weeks ago that the buyer never paid for. And you can't even leave negative feedback for the timewasters.

They should reintroduce the option to leave negative feedback for peeps who don't pay.

As usual, protecting themselves and the buyers, not the sellers who actually fund eBay!

remember to read the small print before doing any listings; it's been a stipulation that you have to use the Sell Your Item form to qualify - ie. you can't use any bulk listing tools (even their own), or simply relist previous unsold items. unfortunately I never spotted this until relisting a whole bunch of stuff in the past couple of free listing weekends - and I've just had to stump up 50 quid for listings that I thought would have been free. they -used- to let you relist stuff on free listing days!

Pity it's not a no final value fee day, that would be much better!

Yeah it is kind of stupid taking not letting you leave negative feedback for non-paying bidders

ebay aren't making any money, they are in loss according to their financial reports. Paypal are keeping them a float, but it wont last forever. Rip off and definately not a deal when you compare the price to other auction sites.

Thanks for this Shame I just listed stuff on the 10 days too

I often relist my things on these free listing weekends and have never had to pay, but I have made sure I relist everything one by one rather than doing it as a bulk relist.
Edited by: "ollysmum" 5th Nov 2010

Good deal i suppose but i only start 99% of my listing at 99p anyway as they always reach there target price anyway & Ollysmum is right to re-list items 1 by 1 as if you do it in bulk even on 99p listings you get charged!!! Cheeky baggers!!!

I fail to see how they fail to make a profit...........they charge through the nose.

Good deal I've got stuff to put, but don't understand why you can't use Turbo Lister and get free listings, I find it much easier to use than the built in stuff.

Yeah, how can they not be making any money?

I guess it's the incompetent staff they're employing that is costing them money?

Also to those peeps who are re-listing, I thought you do not get charged for re-listing if your previous listing didn't sell or buyer didn't pay?

And I agree bring back the negative feedback and your right again it is us sellers who are funding ebay who have to suffer!

oO

It should be free anyway, as they make enough money on the sellers fees

As you can not leave negative feedbacks for buyers, surely all buyers will now be 100%?

If that's the case what is the point of feedback?

WOW save 10p

they still sting you on FVF and paypal

Stick your items on a free weekend and end the item early !!

I hate non payers they waste your Time Money and you cannot leave them negative feedback, I think sellers get a raw deal and ebay dont help !!!!!!

True but as a buyer can also be a seller and you can leave a seller negative feedback then you get less than 100%

could'nt agree more!

I think if you re-list and sell the item your insertion fees are credited back to you but the still charge you again if it doesn't sell....total con!

I don't mind the charges so much as they dont make it clear to you as well as they could. Paypal takes a charge when receiving payment when eBay owns Paypal. Why not just tell me my costs in eBay.

Because even though eBay owns Paypal, they're run as separate companies

This is rubbish, it excludes the use of Turbo lister. Like someone has the time to process each listing manually.
Another example of money grabbing Ebay.

Bit of advice please ...

A couple of weeks ago when it was free listings, i put my car on for sale .. I was careful to follow the instructions and ensure that i never had any extras which would add to the cost. I tried a few times and each time it said that the listing fee was £8.00 ??

I put it on in the end ... my account says i owe them £8.00 !!

What did i do wrong ?? Is there a way i can avoid this next time ???

Any help will be appreciated !!

your right, they actively make it difficult for you to get a sense of how much of a rip off ebay really is. They even wait until the end of the month to sting you for fvf. They are an awful company to deal with too. I used to make a living from ebay but they gradually jacked the fees so much that it was much more beneficial for me to work in tesco.

I rarely use ebay now, if i do i try to cut deals in private, cash on delivery etc. fleabay is not even on the stockmarket so its just the personal greed of the owners that makes it so expensive.

and the fact that gaypal is a "different" company is beside the point because thats not really true other than on a piece of paper, the money lands in the same pockets doesn't it...

don't think free listings normally applies to cars unless they specifically state cars are free (very rare). Not much you can do but with ebay always read the small print, twice... they are a very sly company

Edited by: "spaceinvader" 5th Nov 2010

Free listing's are no so good as you tend to get less for your goods and the is more competition.

its hardly a great deal, you might save 20p on your listing. ebay will still rape you for a cut of the total selling price.

i read everyones comment, and i can see people are upset with ebay on many points so why is everyone giving heat? giving heat means ebay's deal is good, but if people are unhappy due to the company's greed thn give it cold.... so others will know ebay are ripping people off

1) If you dont like ebay, dont use it. And dont complain about it here.
2) Ebay is a business, of course they want to make money. That's the nature of capitalism.
3) Relisting may not count, but if you click 'Sell Similar', then all the information is pre-filled, and it doesnt count as a relisting.
4) The cost of listing is displayed when you list, assuming you're using the standard web interface. Its not for everyone, but its there if you're not sure. And if it says it will cost £8, and you list it anyway, dont be too surprised when they charge you £8.

ITS OK HAVING FREE LISTING DAYS BUT ITS THE MONEY THEY TAKE IF U MANAGE TO MAKE A BIT OF THAT PUTS A DAMPER ON THINGS... BEST TO KEEP WITH SMALL ITEMS.

err... this may be a bit off topic,

but what other auction site do u know of???
thk

Thanks for this!

I don't see how anyone could vote it cold. For those who use ebay these free listing days are obviously the greatest deal ebay has to offer them. Those who don't use ebay (for whatever reason, fees too high, bad experiences etc...) shouldn't even vote!
Yes, ebay final value fees suck... anyone can agree, you sell something for £500 and end up paying £50 + Paypal fees but still doesn't mean that the free listing day has to be voted cold for the sake of it!
Cold voters mind your business and let these ebay deals receive the needed heat for those who are interested
