Found 26th Nov 2008Made hot 26th Nov 2008
This weekend, private sellers can list their items on eBay.co.uk using the auction-style format with a starting price of 99p or under and pay no Insertion Fee*. So it's a great opportunity to clear out your unwanted items in your home before Christmas and make a little bit of extra cash too!

ebay have got mean-auction only under 99p so not much really is it when you look at the fees i pay...

Thanks though hypnoticstate for letting me know ;-)

wish i new this before, just put a load of thing on there, just my luck, thanks anyway.

Thanks.. will clear out all my cr*p for Christmas lol

It's not the auction fees that hurt, It's the final value fees that are a killer. Also the paypal fees hurt alot (ebay own paypal aswell).

Save 10p per item and let them rip you off on the final value fees. Cold.

thanks for the tip off

"Thats right, you can save a massive 10p on listing fees per item.... but don't forget we will be shafting you for 10% of your final auction price.... why not just give us the item and save yourself time and effort!"

Thanks for the heads-up

Thanks OP, will make use of this and sell all my **** off before crimbo.

And you are TOLD to list PAYPAL has one of your payment methods else your **** items will be still
your **** items.

voted hot i got loads of stuff to put on at the weekend. thanks for the help

its an incentive to sell some stuff but i am still not happy with their overall fees!

I dont like ebay anymore, Its a shame that they have such a monopoly and can charge just about what they like. This gives a saving of 10p.

At least you can try to flog things for free without risk.

I don't use ebay anymore after bad experiences from buying and selling, including losing a 300+ feedback account just because someone hijacked it

i got hijacked lastnight but didnt have to delete my account, i just went on live chat with a rep and they sorted it out for me and sent me a new temporary password. shame you lost all your feedback though

is the % of final value fees higher this weekend?

Freezing. Would be hot if it was free final value fees, which are beyond extortion.

good deal hypno

If you think ebay charges are high take a look at what you have to pay on amazon marketplace or playtrade, then you will think again.

also good deal but no point listing now as a million (exaggerating) people will sell a similar item to yours and your item wont reach a good value. just my 2 cents

yeah ebays FvF are high now

what i want to know is:
how are people getting their ebay accounts hijacked?

eBay are a rip off so every time they drop their prices, even if it's only 10p per item, i jump at the chance. Especially if i have a lot i want to sell. Could make quite a few quid back if you have enough to sell.

i dont know, but they found my email password and had got into that too. took a few hours to sort

ebay is c**p Buyers can leave negative feedback even if they don't pay for the item!! its crazy, i wont use it anymore.

Well fed up with ebay and so are a lot of my mates because of the final fees and also Paypal charges. Don't use it as much as I used too.

Lots of adverse comments in this thread, and I agree with all of them. So why is this deal on fire then? Strange.

What are the ebay alternatives? I did 2 car boot sales last year. I got cold and wet both times, and the cheeky ******* wanted something for nothing 9/10 times. I don't know which is worse, being robbed at the car boots or by ebay!

How is that ebays fault,if you clicked on a dodgy link, phishing email etc.

Thats half the problem if you don't know how your account was hacked, nobody else to blame but yourself when your account gets hijacked.

Clicking on links in an email is how most of it happens.

cant you request buyers pay using personal cheque or postal order?

then just get the seller to gift payment to avoid extra PP/*bay costs?

cold for me, not much of a deal when they just recently stuck prices up (unjustly!).

Also not very safe to buy from ebay anymore, been scammed twice recently and ebay/paypal are protecting the scammer and refuse to help me out on the matter.

The community Q+A forum is more helpful than ebay sometimes, post problems on there if you need help.i suggest you use a posting ID though as people have a habit of trawling through your account if its an active one.

What was the problem greentango ?

As a buyer using a gift payment offers no protection i wouldn't advocate that, nor does chq or PO

Sellers can still accept other payment methods, but they MUST offer paypal as well

I'm selling the now on ebay...
i think i'd rather a final value fee free weekend than an insertion fee free weekend (as 10p is nothing) as they just seem to be ripping people off more and more.
But it's are own fault's for putting up with it and using the site.

i guess you have to weigh up whether you sale on ebay and get a high price and make enough profit after the fees
or use somewhere else with a smaller market but lower fees

I don't think the fees are too bad, they are if ya only sell somet for 99p lol

Good comment.
Cold for me. After all the fee nothing....so cold.

If you can't offset the fees against the selling price, try the Loot, thats free..lol

Sold two games on ebay the transaction went through fine and had the money in my account but two weeks later the payments i received were reversed back to the buyer as the payment were "fraudulent" (so ebay said), contacting the buyer resulted in nothing and ebay wouldn't lift a finger to investigate the issue.

The odd thing is i am covered by there seller protection policy but ebay flatly refused to honour it, guess this is case for watch dog, i am hoping they might be able to help me out.

Worst thing about it is a gave this scammer good feedback on ebay and i am not allow to retract it!

Can I ask a question regarding ebay, I sold a phone last week, received payment to my paypal (not through the ebay route) and then I sent the item. In the next few days a dispute was put up on the payment in my account and then the funds were reversed, leaving me with no money or phone. I contacted paypal who stated that the buyer's account had been hacked in to and therefore had to give a refund to the buyer?? This has left me with no phone or payment which has truly devastated me as the total was £191.00. What can I do?? Should I contact my bank or the police?? I sent the item recorded delivery and have proof that it's been signed for. Additionally, I have an address to which I sent the package to. Any advice would be much appreciated as losing that £191.00 has been an absolute killer.

Thanks in advance
David

Paypal customer service is 'virtual'. If you get someone on phone, then you are very lucky.
They don't reply to you, just read a few statements from a 'paper'. Or some recorded messages playing back to us?
