Couldn't find anything about this on the site and it definitely should be on here. If you are a member of your local library, you can get access to loads of magazine subscriptions for free (list below) to your tablet device or computer. You do need to install zinio and register for an account, but then it is really simple select which magazine(s) you want. There are quite a few great titles there too.

Just go to your local library's website and search for Zinio. I added a link for Edinburgh's libraries. You can also view this site wfhowes.co.uk/dig…nio
for more info.

Enjoy!

PS. On a related note - for all those BB haters out there - Zinio works brilliantly on a BB Playbook.

They also now do ebooks and audiobooks from the library

Good shout @jaystan.

Norfolk library don't seem to offer the service

No library around me seems to be offering it either

Weird - I had thought it would be UK wide.
If you go to - wfhowes.co.uk/sig…-in you can select Norfolk County Library if you are registering. Not 100% if it will work for you - but think it should. Maybe get in touch with the library to ask?

Aberdeen don't either. What a surprise.

Actually, I am not sure if that sign in page is the correct one. Sorry. But definitely contact your library to see if they are part of this scheme.

I tried to reply to you to say that I managed to find the URL you'll need to access Aberdeen...

Aberdeen Library Zinio access

I am not sure if the other comment will eventually get through moderation... I might be just too impatient!

PS. found it the link by luck tbh - changing the 'edinburgh' to 'aberdeenshire'...

I can confirm this worked for me in West Berkshire too. This all seems too good to be true though!

I know... I couldnae believe it either! Thought this would already be on HUKD as well, but when I spotted it wasn't I had to register and get it added/shared.

Hi,
Sorry to sound thick but how do I find out if my library does this, I am in Wiltshire. I have looked but I can`t find anything to say they subscribe to zinio. If Wiltshire library does not do it, am I able to access it through another library perhaps? I actually use Zinio to buy magazines so it would save me some money if I could access it through a library. Hope someone can help me. Many thanks in advance. Heat added good post

sorry are you saying you managed to create an account on the aberdeensire libray even tho you don't live there? as as I'm also in berkshire(well come under the wokingham council, so wokingham library member and don't see zinio mentioned on their site).

Original Poster

If you can't find a link for your library - I'd recommend just calling your local library or even just popping in to ask.

As part of the subscription, you need to input your library membership number and so I don't think this will work if you choose the wrong library.

Give them a call. Let us know if they do, but just haven't added to their website. I am curious to know if this is UK wide or whether it is only available in some councils.

Any idea if Shropshire library service do this?

Thanks for the reply PeterLee I will ask in my local library when I am in town next week and let you know if they do or not.

would be amazing if they did it at my local library. but they don't :I

Sorry where's your link for Edinburgh?

No, I'm saying that I changed the URL to “westberkshire” and it worked for me. I have also discovered subsequently that the service is advertised on my council's website itself (albeit not very well). Have you tried changing the URL to “Wokingham” or looking on their website? I used to live in Wokingham council area until fairly recently, the library service was decent enough I seem to remember so I imagine they will have signed up for this. I did check for Reading council yesterday though and it wasn't on there, no great surprise really!

Here was me thinking this deal would get a lot hotter than it has. Guessing it isn't UK wide - or it is more common knowledge than I thought.

I think you are right it doesn`t seem to be UK wide, I have looked on all the Wiltshire libraries and Zinio is not advertised on any of them, but to be fair I didn`t really expect them to have it, Wiltshire Libraries are not exactly great with having up to the minute things. Hopefully in future more libraries will offer Zinio, but at least you have made people aware of it so they can ask about having it at their libraries.

Not available where I live. I guess we don't read much here.

Edinburgh Library Zinio link

Thanks!

Asked about this in my local library today, it seems none of the libraries in Wiltshire do this and have no plans to get it in the near future, which is a shame.

Thanks :-) Hot

I haven't found one in London yet.

I have just registered for the account and received an email saying my account was waiting for approval. How long should this take?

It's not the correct site - I just got a mail saying that the site was for key library staff.

nothing near me, wonder if theres a "formula" to get the library card no.

Did you check this with the library or just look on the website. My library would fall into Cheshire East (Macclesfield) and I would definitely use this if it was available.

Answered my own question.. it turns out you can speak with a Cheshire librarian on-line! .....

Hello, welcome to Ask a Cheshire Librarian. Unfortunately we don't subscribe to that scheme.
do you know if there is plans for it?
Not at the moment as it does not cover all the magazines we would like to offer.

Would be hot if all libraries partake but seems a lot do not.

Not available here in Suffolk but heat added anyway, thanks OP
