Found 4th Aug 2014
To mark the 100th anniversary since the start of World War 1, Greene King is inviting service men, women and veterans in England and Wales to enjoy a meal, absolutely free.
From 3 - 9 August, serving and retired armed forces personnel will be eligible for a free meal in any one of nearly 430 Greene King Local Pubs, simply by showing their forces ID or veteran’s badge.

Sounds a pretty good deal to me! Not eaten there before but any free food is good food.

Free meal applies to selected sections on the menu: ‘Delicious Classics’, ‘Mouth-Watering Mains’, ‘The Main Event’ and ‘Our Favourites’. Manager’s decision is final. No cash alternative.

How can people vote this cold? 100 years since the war and these guys are showing a bit of respect to a large portion of our nation who have served. Current serving and veterans are a massive number, good on them!

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them!

Thankyou to all those who sacrificed that we may retain our liberty.

Gets a thumbs up from me - only did 3 1/2 years so no vet but happy for those serving and those who have served in conflict or full 22yrs are well deserving people

Big respect and salutes you

Don't know the answer for certain, but the composition of hukd posters/members has altered drastically in the past year or so, and I suspect that's something to do with it - the irony is that many old soldiers I've met have been quite firmly against the way the country has gone, with lots of comments like ''It's not what I fought for'' and so on.

I saw a couple of Chelsea Pensioners on holiday in Scotland a few weeks ago, and thankfully they were proudly wearing their scarlet coats around the town they were staying in, rather than letting anything unmentionable put them off.

Be the best.

Any former serving member of the Armed Forces can apply for the badge.
It can take up to 12 weeks to arrive, so not much use for this offer, if you haven't got one already.

The card cost a few pounds a year, you easily save that much with it.

Thanks for the heads up! I will go tomorrow and get mine. I got the Toby carveries one as well (I'm not tight fisted, but appreciate it when they do things like this). Ok, I am tight fisted - but I am a veteran. By the way; if you've served 3.5 years, you are most certainly a veteran. I also have the defence discount card and very good it is.

Does this include Cubs veterans?oO

Just registered thanks kindly although I never considered to be a veteran (I know you'll understand why)

But having checked just one "discount" am I looking into this too deep?

Virgin Media offer discounts (code when link clicked) to Defence Discount Service members but the offer I got is the same as any other person without the Defence Discount Service code.

Good on Greene King! I raise a glass

That's not irony, it's just a bunch of miserable people wanting yet another moan. (No, serving in the armed forces doesn't make you immune from criticism)

Greene King hats off to you.

One vets badge on order....now y is my dog nervous?

The Defence Discount Service card is just £4.99 for 5 years; hope this helps.
