FREE Microchipping from Dogs Trust

13
Found 7th Jul 2014
You can now have your dog microchipped free of charge at a Dogs Trust rehoming centre, or at an event near you…and now even at your local vet*!

Microchipping helps identify your dog if lost or stolen and it will soon be a legal obligation for all dogs to be chipped**– so don’t miss out.

Great find. Should be compulsory for all animals plus wouldn't harm if one chip was to be inserted in to the owners of certain breeds too. lol

i would love 2 have my dog chip

For owners who's animal has small dog syndrome, sure.

Oh a side note, I did ask for one of the RFID chips (they're about the size of a long grain rice) and they wouldn't give me one. They won't even give you one to take to your local piecing/tattoo studio.

I can kind of understand why, since it'll be a legal requirement and as such illegally 'chipped' dogs with rogue numbers isn't good.

Should bring back compulsory licensing as well. With a test / training for the owner. Which gets revoked on a penalty point / fine system like cars. For fouling / not using a lead etc. It's disgusting that anyone can just go and buy one of these beautiful animals without having the responsibility to look after it correctly.

The big problem with licensing is its really nothing more then a tax system, at best it's a upfront punishment system for the good guys who're not and may never do anything wrong.

It doesn't stop people from letting their pets poop and not bother cleaning it up, doesn't make people use a lead and certainly doesn't make the dog behave any better as a result of being a licensed pet.

More so, the people who don't want to pay the fee simply won't and you'll have animals who're 'underground' being mistreated as a result of these said people not wanting to come forward to take them to the vets because they've not paid a fee, or indeed have simply got an animal from a cheap 'breeder'.

To be honest, I'm not sure how this law with dogs having to be chipped is going to help anyone other then to convict people who's dog had bitten someone, or to automatically charge and return dogs to their owners if they're found - with the latter already done with dog rescue centres anyway if your dog has a chip in it.

I highly doubt vets will be updating their computer systems to automatically track dogs via scanning them. We've had our dog chipped for about 9 years now and the only times the vet has scanned him was when it was first injected, and to change our address.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for responsible pet owners, and indeed microchipping dogs. At the end of the day it's the animal I'm concerned about and a license fee, I don't think would help matters.

And don't get me wrong, I have no problems with responsible owners. Just owners that allow their dogs to foul parks, streets and run loose in public areas and/or maul at people. I also have a problem with the so called dog wardens who seem to do nothing to prosecute offenders. Our council may as well not have a dog warden for the good they do.

Been on before but brillant got my puppy done for free :))

and why not cats?

Got this done by Dogs Trust at a carnival for my puppy, it was very quick and professional and he got a free bandana to wear which looked surprisingly good
