Free Microsoft Office 365 Education - I was student 5 years ago

Found 27th Sep 2015
I just logged on to my old student email address (.ac.uk) through Outlook 365 online for the first time in years and a pop-up stated I was entitled to free Office 365. I finished Uni 5 years ago, give it a go.

Our University has finally signed up to this after I nagged them to death. If you're a University student, I feel you should get this by default with the amount of money you pay.

If your university isn't eligible, get in contact with your student information/it services or it techy.

EH? Really?

I should have a free Ferrari with the amount of petrol duty I pay OH NO WAIT the government and Ferrari aren't the same company. I think they should charge students for this and give it away to people who rarely use it for free. After all students will use it more and get more use out of it, don't you think?

EDIT at this point I'm off to check my old uni email X)
Libreoffice is free, both as in beer and in freedom.

Now that George Osborne has considerately abolished student grants I think Office 365 should definitely be free.

If it is mandatory for your course. Otherwise, you can always use the university's computers or Libre Office. Will the next step be: "they should provide me a laptop"?

As with everything else, if your requirement is that the university should provide office for free, then maybe you should look for a course at a different university...

And is just horrible.
It is worth noting that 365 is free to universities, so it makes no difference how much you pay the uni.
Worked for me too and graduated in 2010. Cheers.
Microsoft Office Office is free for everyone.

I'm a bit confused about how to get this deal. Could you post a few more details? How do I know if my Uni is eligible?

I'm sorry I wouldn't know how to check if your University is eligible. I logged on to my emails through outlook online for the first time since graduating in 2010 and a pop-up offered "free download of full office suite -click here" or words to same effect. log in and see.

There's very little not included in the online version that the average user would need. All the popular stuff like word, excel, powerpoint etc is there. Just thought I'd point it out for the huge amount of people who don't qualify for the OP's discount offer.

But much better than Microsoft Office xD
I've forgotten my Uni email password... We had to regularly change then

Free, faster for me than using Microsoft office (not sure why though). You can download libre office on an android device and create documents etc...
Is there any trick to sign up to a student email without being a student?

shame i got ac.uk email account but is not qualified
Quick reminder, anyone who has an .ac.uk e-mail address can get Amazon Prime for £39 a year (Amazon Student), and they only check the e-mail address when you sign up, following that it runs for 4 years at £39 before reverting to their normal price of £79. Highly recommended for anyone who uses Amazon on a fairly regular basis!

If your uni techs were crap then yea, you wouldn't catch an active email on any system I run 5 years after someone has left though. So this is seeming to run on bad uni tech admins.
Most Uni's will revoke your email after you've graduated, I know mine gives you 3 or 6 months grace period after you graduate and then terminates the email
I only get the online version with this with my current .ac.uk account.

You can also get 5% off some amazon purchases using NUS Extra - nus.org.uk/en/…on/
they took my ac.uk email address off me....bar stewards
You can also have it on some school email addresses they don't have to be .ac

and with the home use programme (hup) you can get a full copy of word for £10
thanks!
For those without an active student .ac.uk email account anymore, check if your uni offers an alumni email address. Mine has _____@alumni.manchester.ac.uk
