Found 30th Aug 2016
Monzo (known as Mondo but had to change its name recently) is a new online/app only bank growing as rapidly as Facebook. Get your FREE prepaid MasterCard and hassle free mobile app to better control your spendings.

Invite your friends using invite link (email) to skip the waiting queue - every invite allows to skip 4000 people. I activated my account this morning and my prepaid card is on its way - ready to use soon while in NY.

It has no monthly fees and the MasterCard can be used abroad for free, too.

You need to top-up an initial £100 before they'll send you a card out

They were granted their banking licence a few months ago apparently so at least there's some degree of legitimacy there. i've signed up but there's nearly 30,000 people ahead of me !

if i ever get to the top and they want £100 quid though then i may just bin it

#edit

in the 2 hours since i signed up, there are now over 100 people in the queue behind me so I suppose they're potentially signing up 1,200 people per day at the moment

£100 is yours to use so it's FREE.
Just use your invite link and choose some friends type in their emails and you'll get to the front of the queue. I got my account activated in a day.

do your friends actually have to sign up then or do you just have to send invites ?

As I said, They're now a legitimate bank. Obviously it goes without saying that creating a "waiting list" for anything makes it far more desirable, but, at least on the face of things, they do seem legitimate.

perhaps you can answer then, do you just have to send the invites or do your friends actually have to sign up ?

You can send an invite link to a friend who then types in his/her email address on Monzo website, no need for full registration at the stage, or, you can use your invite link yourself and give your friends email address. They will receive an email.

well i did try it - i sent the referral link to an email address i had, clicked through it and entered this other email and it made absolutely zero difference to my place in the queue, so it looks like the other person has to fully sign up and download the app as well

What I've done is: used the Google shortened and personalised invite link received from Monzo https://****/QPmq9v and clicked it. On their website you then type in friends' email addresses (the ones you want to share Monzo with) every time you do it you should have received sound notification (coins) and info that you skipped your queue.

You can use any email address as long as it exists and hasn't been registered at Monzo previously

This does look decent, but at an initial minimum top-up of £100 they can **** off.

I think the issue here is posting this in the "Freebies" section of a deals website.
That's not what this is ... It's a startup bank, not a discounted toaster, bargain holiday or free can of carbonated beverage.
Yes they're asking you to top up the card by £100 but that's still your money to use as you see fit purchasing who knows what, in fact I seem to remember the days when high street banks asked for a minimum amount to open an account (or maybe that's just my failing memory). What you have is the opportunity to get on board at the start, take part in the forums and discussions and shape the final product that emerges when it comes out of beta.
Yes £100 is a lot for some people, but you don't have to take part in this if you don't want too. It's also not like you lose the money !! It's still your's, it'll just be on your new Monzo card instead of in note form in your wallet/purse.

that's exactly what i did but i never moved an inch up the queue. I'll probably try it again though.

well i tried it again and still nothing happened. i still think you have to download the app and sign up with each new email rather than just clicking on it

It worked for me - are you using your invite link ? Probably yes.... Message them on Facebook or Twitter they may be able to help.

yeah, definitely using the invite link.

i'm in no massive hurry though, i'd rather wait until they have a complete banking service available, including direct debits. they're also looking to join apple pay as well which will be good.

how do you load money on it. I am canadian and studying in the UK. Can I do it from my canadian bank account.
