You are selling yourself short there, MOT's are £50 now.

Added some heat for you even though it's not in my catchment area.

Hmm, read the bit at the bottom of the screenshot
"If you car fails MOT you have to pay £19.50 for repeat MOT and all additional work needed to your car"
Sounds a bit like they will make you get the work done by them? Hot if they are genuine and not dodgy ("your exaust fell off when we were testing MOT")

Suddenly you will need brakes, shocks, tyres, wiper blades, clutch, wheel bearings.

We could do a watchdog type test to make sure nothing was wrong before and see what they come up with once they have done the test.

Yeah - in 1990?!?!

Brake fails are hard to falsify - as they are done on a machine that normally keeps the results.

Clutches are not part of the MOT.

anybody have any experience of this?

They cannot force you to have the repairs done at their garage.

sorry it was £19.50 if you fail the MOT and beed a retake

Still have to pay the £19.50 for an almost guaranteed MOT failure.

won't the car fail its mot regardless though whoever does it

Just don't take it for a re-MOT then, nothing stopping you not going back. What if you decided to scarp the car, wouldn't need a retest

As an experiment my company put a fleet car through an MOT , it failed . It was then re-tested at another MOT station the following day , it passed.

Its down to the individual MOT tester when he checks other items that a calibrated machine can't .

For 50p its worth it after you service your car to put it in and see what they claim it would fail on.

If nothing is wrong you get an MOT for 50p.

If it fails and they are accurate - you get warned of a safety issue for 50p - which if it is something trivial like a bulb and they charge you twenty quid for the retest then its still a good bet if your car has less than 6 or 7 months MOT left.

If it fails on something fabricated - you lost 50p!!!!

So good returns for a 50p gamble - HOT
