Free MOT Reminders from DVLA

104
Found 30th Jan
They used to charge for this service so I had to rely on the my local garage to send me a reminder, but now the DVLA will send you a free text or email 1 month before your MOT is due and a subsequent one if you’ve not had it done 2 weeks before (you can get your MOT done up to 1 month early)

Remember a missed MOT could result in a £1000 fine.

I’ve seen this before, but not really appreciated the point. Is it not easier to add a reminder to your calendar app on your phone or tablet?

While commonplace, not everyone has or wants a smartphone. This also takes the responsibility partly away from you to remember when the MOT is due (though were it to fail, I'm sure that you'd still be liable) and checks the status against DVLA records, including for future years when the expiry date might not be exactly the same.
Doctors. Dentist. Insurances. Birthdays. Mot, tax... The list goes on of possible missed deadlines. Just use your phones calendar and set 2 reminders for each with an email sent to you as well which happens automatically. Speak.. OK Google. Remind me to mot car on the 15 November 2018. Set again one month before. I prefer not to use voice so I type in Google search box.. Must be Google search box.. Type... OK goggle set calendar event.. Fill in boxes... Then setup to repeat every year.. forever... I then print off and pin to wall every January... Good idea to use the dvla service to. I need prompting more than once.. Lol... good post op....

True, but I'm supposing that after the reminder is set up, you need some device that will receive either an email or text. Is there any such device that doesn't have a calendar function?
BTW. I'm not knocking the thread; I realise that some like to have the assurance that they will be reminded when the MOT is due.

So when their site is hacked your proper email address along with your car details will fall into the criminals hands . Lots of bits of info from here and there all add up to i.d. fraud.
Thanks OP, just signed up. Completely forgot mine expires end of Febuary.
Great timing!

There are far, far easier ways of getting your email address and your car details these days. Trying to hack gov.uk is definitely not one of them.
Mine was registered march 2015, I didn't know when MOT had to be done - I do now, by the 30th March - thanks OP!
Thank you for posting this
DVLA do not issue MOT reminders. That’s the DVSA....
I use the Vehicle Smart App for this, as well as all sorts of info and reminders, such as light bulb types, tyre pressures etc.
Worth getting the premium version if you've built up google rewards.

I don't think you need to hack the DVLA to get my registration number and email addresses
Comes back every month or so. How can an email reminder be a deal?
Not working for northern Ireland here
Good find
Can't see the point. Stick it your diary, stick it on your calendar, put it in your outlook, put it on your phone, put in any other online calendar/diary. Why sign up to something ? Absolutely no need whatsoever!

Pick up pen, open diary/calendar, write 3 letters.....MOT. Think that's a damn sight quicker!

When Google gets hacked and all the data stolen we've all had it! Anyway. What's the criminals going to do with my dentist appointment or my wedding anniversary reminder.. Keep up the good good work though as without someone question this stuff we would all end up like sheep..

Well, if you don't have MOT then you'll get £100 fine & insurance will be void if you happen to be in an accident at that unfortunate time. So, you save money in the form of a reminder = a good deal. There, I justified how it's a deal.

I drove my car for 2 days before realising MOT had expired - so heat from me OP!
Awesome. Flame on.
Not a deal...
Thanks signed up for the whole house

+1 for vehicle smart. Great app!
Absolutely hysterical people spending more time knocking this for being a waste time than it takes to just sign up (or ignore it)

That’s the Internet right there for you! 🤪
It's DVSA, DVLA are the ones the tax you.
Thanks for this op. I never knew it existed! All signed up now
Tried this last time it was posted , entering all the relevant details and guess what , no reminder .
This was on HotUkInfoSevice only a few weeks ago....
