Free new album produced by Trent Reznor (NIN) - "Niggytardust"

Nine Inch Nails' member Trent Reznor has been ranting on the band's website (http://nin.com/), and all but said they're going to follow Radiohead and release their next album exclusively online.

He said "Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed."

The album is available for free but I would strongly advice to pay the $5 to support the artists. This would push other artists to do the same.

This is an album by Saul Williams (most known for his blend of poetry and hip-hop) and produced by Trent Raznor.

It would be nice to pay the $5 which is only £2.50 to support the artists!!!

:-)

I'm currently saving for xmas so every freebie helps.

$5 is fine by me.

I have been notified that I will receive an e-mail with a link on 01 November.

Might be worth editing the title as well matey:thumbsup: It's a good deal for those who want to support Trent's collaborating partner, it's not going to sound anything like NIN though.

Not a trent CD, but its gonna be awesome nonetheless

Saul williams is pretty sound. i saw him in manchester one year when he supported NiN

Yeah - highly recommend Saul Wiiliams. Not sure I'm happy to pay for a download until I'm convinced it's not also coming out on CD.

I only pay for my albums ONCE - and it's easier to pay for a (potentially) copy controlled CD and download the ripped version than to pay for the MP3s then have to rush into HMV to swipe the CD

It's not NiN but give it a listen, after all its free! Don't let the Hip Hop tag put you off, I don't think you can put Saul's music so easily in a box like that. Like another of his peers Mike Ladd, Saul doesn't slavishly stick to any one genre so I expect it will at least be unpredictable creative music. Voted hot!

Hmmm I Wish Someone Like Radiohead Thought Of This First : )

I had the album Amethyst Rock Star a few years ago, it was excellent. Really looking forward to this one.]

Then download the FLAC. It's lossless, meaning that it's identical to the CD, only zipped.

MP3s are lossy, they cut out higher/lower frequencies and at lower bitrates they butcher the sound.

If you download the FLAC copy and burn to CD as an audio CD, it'll be the same as a CD.

You can, of course, convert FLAC to MP3, Ogg, Atrac or whatever you like.

In this way the release is far better than Radiohead's. They only provided a low quality MP3 for download, forcing anyone who likes music into paying 40GBP for the full set.

At the end of the day, what made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store. Pretty much anything you could ever imagine, it was there, and it was there in the format you wanted. If OiNK cost anything, I would certainly have paid, but there isn't the equivalent of that in the retail space right now."

I heard the first 4 tracks on the way to work this morning, pretty good stuff! Track 4 is awesome, very NIN. I'll be paying for this.

Did they? How?:-)

they made the full 'year zero' album available on their myspace, and put up torrents for it before the cd was released.

I never received an email so completely forgot this was available now. Did anyone else get one?

Good plan. I tend to like my music in high quality, so $5 is fine for me (initially thought it was for one song, doesn't say clearly on the site that it's an album), but I'd rather hear it first in case I don't like it...

Can you choose to get all the bitrates or do you only get one? I'd like the 320 as it's done by them but I'd like the flac too - would I have to pay twice?

Have you listen to the album?

IT IS BRILLIANT!!!! NIN HIP_HOP STYLE!!!!!

Only 1 in 5 shelled out the $5.00 then.
