Free new version of Barclays bPay wristbands for current owners

Found 1st May 2015
Further to my post last year, the new version of the wristband is coming soon.

hotukdeals.com/fre…692

CHECK YOUR EMAIL that you used to request your current wristband. They are asking you to choose which colour of the new, slimmer, lighter wristband you want to receive. One will be sent to you for free before they go on sale. So this should be FREE FOR CURRENT OWNERS, but new customers can register their interest although I'm not sure they will get one for free.

I received the email on 1 May. I clicked on one of the colours offered in the email and that was it I should get my new version for free in a few weeks time. Fingers crossed.

They also confirm that the current wristbands are coming to the end of their service. Any money left will be refunded.

Excerpt of the email:

"
In a couple of months we'll be launching a newly designed wristband that's lighter, slimmer and comes in a choice of colours. You'll also see some additions to the bPay family making their debut. On top of this, managing your account will become even easier, with a redesigned online servicing hub and a mobile app to download.
To say thank you for using bPay already, we'd like to send you one of our new wristbands free of charge, so you get yours before they go on sale to the public.
...
From 31 May you'll no longer be able to use your current wristband and we'll refund any money left in your account on to the last card you used to top up. When your new wristband arrives all you'll need to do is register and activate it either online or through the app.
We're really sorry for the disruption in June but we're feeling confident, that when you start experiencing the next generation of bPay, it'll all have been worth it.

I love the existing band, so am looking forward to the new and improved one, especially during the summer when I don't have to worry about carrying cards and cash.

I got this too, went for the charcoal version.

if you didn't use it you get this.....

"Since we launched bPay, we've received some great feedback from customers about ways we can make it even better. Based on what we've heard, we've put the wheels in motion to bring out the next generation of devices along with some really useful new features.
Even though you haven't been using your wristband and enjoying everything bPay has to offer at the moment, we hope that the improvements we're making will change that.
To prepare for the next generation of bPay, on 31 May we'll need to suspend the services available to you through your account.
Our new devices and features will be available by the end of June and if you're interested in finding out more about these exciting developments you're just one click (or tap) away."

They didn't offer me new one cause I hadn't use the first one

Do credit cards charge a fee to top-up? Anyone used a credit card to top-up? I've used debit cards but not credit cards.

I just wish they'd let us link it to a credit card rather than Topup from one!

linked to my debit card quite well. I feel it could be improved by adding a watch. If your pretty handy then you can add it to the back of a watch like I did, worked well. Also the chip fits nicely in phone case if you have one, just wish more outlets were contactless!

Didn't receive any email (though oddly have received a text saying I should respond to their email.) It's definitely the registered address - there are about 70 messages there, one for each top up confirmation, but nothing about how to continue use after May. Hope I hear soon, I use it every day. Nothing on the web site about how to opt in!

Have you checked "junk" folder?

What's next for bPay?
We’re not taking registrations for bPay right now. Leave your details here and we’ll keep you updated on our future bPay products.

Best not to choose now. Only grey and black available on current email but in the next couple of weeks another mail is going out with more, funkier colours. If you have already selected grey/black, you will be stuck with it.

I've been trying to get one of these for the past few months. I requested it a while back and didn't hear back.

Registered my interest again, fingers crossed!

Would be perfect for when I go out running, no credit/oyster card needed, just pop this on!

Anyone know if they've sorted out the issues when using it for travel on TFL? (it was impossibly unreliable when I tried it last year - it needed to be swiped at least 3-4 times and often didn't work even then, so I had to stop using it)

I just logged into my account to request a new password and got a message saying that my new band will be on it's way soon....wait and see I guess

I took the chip out of mine and put it under my battery cover in phone. Voila, payments via moto g.

better than apple watch

They'll be wanting to put the chip in your body soon...

This contactless stuff is just laziness

When it hits 32gb Im in...

I never received my last one.

Shame I ordered one a couple of years ago and never had it sent out. Got the email saying my account would be closed.

They had the audacity to send me text messages with offers in the time they thought I had this band too.

Bunch of cowboys.

I never knew about these, too late to get one now

worst bank ever run by idiots. apply for a mortgage. 2.5 months faffing about only to tell you they won't lend in that area because they lent their too much already. Wtf. because some dunce thinks 50 mortgages is too big a commitment out of 84 properties but if dunce no doubt in London did their job properly they'd find its actually 50 mortgages out if 1400 properties

clearly Barclays employs dumb people

If handing over some cash or putting a card into a reader and inputting a four digit number is too much for you, that is laziness.

Because of people like you we'll all end up being forced to have these implants once our fascist government realises they'll also work as ID chips.

Cheers OP

another way for the banks to detach you from what is really money, hoping you will spend more without thinking twice and getting further into debt. Fractional reserve banking at its best

My new bands came today.......

Just got mine. Might use it this time round by sticking it to my phone. the bracelet is hideous.

My new one also arrived yesterday, smaller and more ergonomic than the old one I think.

You can link to TFL online (for journey history etc) if you log into bpay, in the device settings you can access the card no, CVV and expiry number to use on Tfl.

Worth noting that the new one can be used abroad too for free (and excellent official exchange rate)

Has anyone tried the new band on TFL ticket barriers? I gave up using the old band because it was basically a waste of time for travel.

My new ones came today too. I didn't use the old one.I'm not sure if it's possible to get the bpay keychain instead. As I find it incredibly hard to put these Bracelets on.

I raelly like this new design. Sleeker and has some style.

I can't seem to find anywhere that says it can be used abroad? Does this mean I can link the bPay to my Travelex Supercard?

How do you find out which countries have contactless avaiable

"Can I use my bPay device outside of the UK?
Yes. You can use your bPay device outside the UK. We will not charge you for using your bPay device outside of the UK." (http://www.bpay.co.uk/help-centre/using-bpay)

France I know defo has contactless, probably many other countries I would presume. They all use that same contactless symbol, so you can use the band there too!

Its just a matter of time until some rude boy sees that on your wrist and threatens to shank you for it X)
