Looks hot for me. Is the 5800 the higher spec Nokia or is it the 5300 or something? Would anyone know?

These were going free on the £10 tarrif for the "as new" phones with Virgin. Otherwise they are £69.99 on the £10/mo tarrif

I've been keeping an eye on them for the past month as I've been wanting one as a replacement for my old Sagem. I rang up Virgin to see if they would do me a new 5800 for £10/month to keep me as a customer (I've been with them over 10 years and bought my own phones for the past 9 !!!) but they weren't budging

I wouldn't go for the refurb phone from Virgin anyway - it has a 6 month warranty but you're locking yourself into a 18 month contract. If the phone goes wrong after 6 months then you're stuffed.

Nokia phones are meant to come with a 2 year warranty anyway aren't they ?

5800 has the 3G, Wifi and GPS while the 53xx series doesn't have the wifi (I think)

I was torn between the 53xx and the 55xx nokia but the lack of wifi on the 53xx put me off and the lack of GPS on the 55xx put me off that phone. The 5800 has the best of both.

Ironically while I was down in Cornwall last week, the brother in law offered me his "old" 5800 as a freebie when he picks up his new Iphone next month ........

Cheers mate - very kind of you.

Pretty good phone but although it's got wifi you really want unlimited 3G internet with it which is only available on £18/month package.

Some people really cannot read.

I saw it, and even better that the OP pointed out that £18 a month has unlimited internet too.

I was going to go for the 5530, but this might be the one to go for...

EDIT: VM site states no Wifi. Bummer.

Yes they do, 2 years plus a month or so for "shelf time" once you get the phone you can ring nokia to see when the warranty ends.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the warranty should last at least the term of the contract?
I know it does with Vodafone. Plus from what I know, the Sales of goods act states that any product should last a reasonable period of time, what is a reasonable period of time? The lifetime of the contract at least? Well at least the average person would hope so! This isn't bad if you pay £10 a month on PAYG, but ties you into a contract, but if you've got a virgin home phone line as of April 1st home calls to your mobile would be freee so +'s and -'s. Each to their own

Definately has Wifi

Check this out the Carphone Warehouse are doing the Nokia 5230 brand new on PAYG for £78.95. It' 3G and is more or less the same as the 5800 just without the wifi.

Probably because you're looking at the "as new" ie. 2nd hand 5800. The brand new 5800 is £69.99 on the £10pm 18 month contract

Nokia 5800 **BRAND NEW** = £69.99 on the £10 tariff
Nokia 5800 **Good as new** = Free on the £10 tariff

So you'd be getting a pre-owned 5800 on the £10 tariff if you wanted it for free.

I have had "Pre owned" phones from Virgin Mobile before (Sony Ericcson W810i) and they really were very good, I would not hesitate to go with one again, the only thing that you have to bear in mind is that the warranty is only 6 months, but the warranty that it does have really is superb.

Hope that helps!!

I'm a Virgin media Customer, how do I get 2 months free if I take the contract online

yep nokia phone have 2 year warranty as i can testify, n95 8gb broke 2 weeks ago 1 month before 2 years was up, sent it off for repair got a new phone!! sweet!!

5530 no wifi and 2mp camera rather than 3. However, the results of the Nokia 5800 camera are pretty poor. My 1.3 megapixel first ever digital camera produced much better pictures.

Other than that I think the 5530 is probably as good if not better than the 5800 (I think it has a newer faster processor).

The Nokia 5800 can download programmes from iplayer over wifi, but since the 5530 does not have wifi presumably it will not be able to download programmes at all, because according to the iplayer website you cannot "sideload" (download via PC) to the Nokia 5800.

The 5530 does have wifi. It's 3G that the 5530 doesn't have.

I can confirm that the 5530 has wifi as I have one and use mine to go online.

Right im going to get burned for this, but really,

OP said free INSTORE???
this means get up go outside, go in town, walk in to a virgin store and ask for the nokia 5800 on the ten pound tarrif.
100 mins 100 txts phone is free,
after digging around i believe this is till they run out of stock ( OF NEW HANDSETS,)
plus internet on the phone with virgin is only 30p a day IF YOU USE IT so if you are going to use it, get it on the £18 tariff.
if your going to go over 100 mins 100 text DONT GET THIS DEAL,
the 5530 AND the 5800 both have wifi yet the major diff is the 5800 supports the iplayer and has a 8 gig memory card.
as for warrenty, manaufacture warrenty covers stuff yea for 2 years? i thought it was 3 so i stand corrected. virgin will cover it for a year if it goes wrong, as in they send a replacement to your house and take the faulty.
one away, where as vodaphone i believe, send yours back and still charge you your monthly line rental.

So................
if you use less then 100 mins and 100 txts yet spend more then a tenner on top up you might aswell get this reasonably good phone for free,
if you use more, use the net regularly on your phone, dont like contracts or going outside or have a habbit of nbreaking your phone the week before the contract expires,
this aint for you.

HEAT AND REP for op
good deal if it suits you.

jeez

Totally with you superhands1, can't people read the op first.

And what is this goon on about

Steve.

The Virgin shop in Wolverhampton were offering this deal just before Christmas. In fact as a Virgin customer they gave me a discount taking it down to £8.50 a month.

For a low user it's a good deal as the phone on PAYG was almost £100. It has Wi-Fi for 30p a day. I think the shops have deals they you don't get online.

Good deal on a good phone.

Not another one!

For goodness sake - read the original post, which said "This is a store only deal by the looks of it".

What more was he expected to say?

Lol - some misquoteing going on there - I didn't post the above quote (I stay out of the politics).

I must admit though, I only clicked on the provided link and didn't spot the bit about instore only.

About to ring my local Virgin store to see what kind of deal they can do on a new 5800 - if they can't do anything then the £10/mo deal for sim only on T Mobile looks rather attractive especially as its unlimited internet and 100 text + 100 talk per month with a 1 month contract.

Just to confuse the isue slightly, I got a text from Virgin yesterday with "Free Nokia 5800 from Virgin Media. 200 mins and unlimited texts for £15 months. Plus 2 months free. Then a phone number to call for details.

Are these unlocked? Could be a nice way to spread the payment of a new phone.
