Free non-pressurised portafilter baskets for Gaggia Classic

If you've recently bought a Gaggia Classic as many of us have, you'll realise they come with the rubbish pressurised portafilter baskets.

Rather than buy non-pressurised baskets, contact Philips (who make Gaggia machines now), tell them you're unhappy with the provided baskets and they will send you a single and double basket absolutely free of charge!! Normally a few quid which you can now spend on some decent freshly roasted coffee beans

It all depends on your skills at pulling a good espresso on how you rate a pressurised portafilter.

For people who are new to pulling your own espresso or don't have a grinder to grind your own beans and as such use pre ground coffee a pressurised portafilter offers a easy and non wasteful way to create an espresso with a great LOOKING crema but obviously it can taste foul.

A non pressurised portafilter obviously is the only way to go if you know what your doing, but for people who don't grind their own beans or are new to real espresso machines you can waste a lot of coffee and time trying to perfect your technique to get the espresso right and consistent.

Its good Philips now offer these for free but its also good to have a pressurised portafilter for the times you need a quick espresso with pre ground coffee or when time is short.
This post was extremely helpful to me thank you very much. I did call through and whilst Matt was a little confused at what I was asking him first of all - he got it in the end. I'm going to get a free double filter - not both though, and I suspect that calling the 0844 number from my mobile would amount to the same as if I had bought it from ebay. My reason for calling was to also rack up my dis satisfaction at only being sent two filters both pressure baskets as apposed to the three that is advertised and in the instructions. I was expecting a pretty uneventful experience as most people have said that Phillips customer service is useless - but once my guy got his head around what I was telling him " the baskets that you send are for people who don't know how to make coffee" then he was on the ball and within the next 7 days i'll be tamping away with no sprays of coffee all over the base of the machine and my kitchen surfaces. Whoopie! ps. May I add that Flash with bleach spray is great for white kitchen surfaces, not so great if you spray it on the wall to remove coffee stains as you'll end up needing a re-dec of the walls too!

I contacted Philips. They were not prepared to send out no-pressurised filter, or any other filter, free of charge and were not aware of any such offer.
