Free O2 mobile broadband dongle trial in Manchester in exchange for your current dongle

Not sure how this will go down with mobile broadband users!!

From 17th July until 30th July Mobile Broadband users in the Manchester area are being encouraged to swap their current networks mobile broadband dongle, for a free O2 dongle. O2 is launching a mobile broadband amnesty in all Manchester stores, handing out free O2 Pay & Go dongles to customers in exchange for a competitor dongle.

To take up the offer of a free O2 Mobile Broadband Pay & Go dongle, customers should visit their nearest Manchester store, hand in their current dongle and theyll be given the O2 dongle in exchange.

The offer is open to all mobile broadband customers on other networks.

The following stores will be participating in O2s mobile broadband amnesty:

Altrincham, Ashton-Under-Lyme, Victoria Plaza Bolton, Bury, Denton, Oldham, Rochdale, St Helens, Warrington, Grand Arcade Wigan, Woodcock Square Wigan, Arndale Centre Manchester, Cross St Manchester, Market Street Manchester, Salford Quays, Northwich, Stockport and two stores in the Trafford Centre.

Hmm, dunno about that! You don't know if O2 would be any better til you try, and I'd not give away my 3 dongle unless I had compared the 2 and decided O2 were better.

and anyway you dont know if the 02 one's worse than the one u currently one
P.s i think you posted on the thread after the title had been edited as well?

Hmm not entirely sure about them being unlocked... maybe some1 who has one can confirm this?

So how much is the broadband charges then?

Also just wondering anybody in Manchester with a good reception with 3 mobile broadband?

Thanks

Daily allowence with 500mb and unlimited wifi for £2.50

Weekly allowence with 1gb and unlimited wifi for £7.50

Monthly allowence with 3gb and unlimited wifi for £15

Clearly not as much as you would get with 3 but much better service!

Be careful. O2's maximum connection speed is 1.8mbps. T-mobile, Voda and 3 all do 7.2mbps

Mine's unlocked.

I use 3 mobile in Manchester and it works perfectly and is pretty fast too. I caught the train down to London with it once - couldnt mantain a signal for any serious length of time on the journey itself but worked great in London too (as you'd expect).

Yea me in North Manchester..excellent reception on 3 mobile broadband

St Helens!?
In Gtr Manchester!?

remember no network is better in every postcode. Its a lottery, so go with the network that is closest to where you are using the dongle.

Nobody should be ditching their dongle, soley because its o2. They *could* have the furthest mast from your house.

They've just added BT Openzone, so it's "The Cloud" "BT Openzone" hotspots the wi-fi part gives access to.

The O2 Dongle has a built in SD Card reader so that's handy.

If you get a Dongle and an iPhone Sim, do you get free internet for a year? I remember reading that somewhere.

o2 mobile internet sux!

As anyone who travels round the country with a 3G iphone will know, O2's 3G coverage is terrible!
Just take a look at the official ofcom coverage maps:

It's crap. Download speeds never exceed 3G for me (as opposed to 3.5g from 3) and I can't even log onto steam to play games. Only bought it for the netbook anyway, which has integrated 3G, but I'd never pay £10 a month for it.

I'd love to do this but no where near Manchester. anyone know if they plan to tour it around other areas. Or any kind citizen of Manchester want to swap my 3 one for me?

O2 mobile broadband was hopeless for me. I'm in a HSDPA/3G coverage area and the connection was useless. I tried a 3 dongle which was better but still not great. I don't know how good T-Mobile or Vodafone are but I wouldn't expect anything much.

dcx_badass;5758208

No it isn't I was in an O2 shop yesterday, they do 3.6 and 7.2 now. But … No it isn't I was in an O2 shop yesterday, they do 3.6 and 7.2 now. But anyways, why would you do this deal as you get nothing out of it, you still have one dongle at the end of it.

They can say what they like, but even in central london or outside the O2, I've never managed to get higher than 1.7. They might have a spot somewhere in the country which can go higher, but as far as data speeds go, O2 is the worst UK network.

deeinlondon;5762131

The3 dongle also has a micro card reader, which was also very easy to un-lock. So can't see this deal as being great unless your current dongle is broken.

Shouldn't the title be - Free o2 Mobile Broadband Dongle (in fact not really free as you have to give in an old one) as I can't see any info regarding free mobile broadband or am I missing something? :?

Not correct, I get 3.6 Mps in Swindon on o2 - admittedly not near Manchester!

O2 3G/HSDPA coverage is very limited (cities / very large towns) ... don't expect anything outside of urbanised areas.

Three is much better, and I've had both and travelled a lot around the country.

I guess I stand corrected. Somewhere does have more than 1.8 after all.

Gripe moan whinge ....

Still incorrect, there's nothing free here - it has a cost. And even if it is unlocked it won't necessarily work with your current operator's software - there's no deal here, just a publicity stunt?

Ok it's Friday petermerritt, be happy.

Shame I'm not in the area as I think I bricked my ZTE627 when I flashed it....

Would be a great wqay to get a free replacement.

For those not nr. Manchester seems you can get £45 cashback through Quidco at the moment on these from O2 anyway - effectively giving you a free dongle plus your first top up free (providing it tracks/pays out ok)
