Sorry if this has already been posted but I did search (I'm using the app) and nothing came up.
If you or your children don't pay for prescriptions you can use the NHS Minor Ailments service to get advice and medicines free of charge.
The NHS Minor Ailments service is available at pharmacies in Scotland, Northern Ireland and selected stores in England and Wales so check locally with your Boots pharmacist for availability.

In Scotland you just need to simply register with your chemist for minor ailments. No need for long term illness etc
Just register and for days like a Saturday when the Dr is closed just pop in and they can issue a prescription for minor ailments without a Dr.
They are qualified pharmacists for a reason.
I use it for my kids. Nappy rashes, teething etc. things that need care but not a Dr.

If you open the link, it's got another tab to open that says the sort of ailments that are treated and head lice is one of them
-persons who are under 16 years of age or under 19 years of age and in full-time education;
-persons who are aged 60 years or over;
-persons who have a valid maternity exemption certificate, medical exemption certificate, or war pension exemption certificate;
-persons who get Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support -- -Allowance, or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit; and
persons who are named on, or are entitled to, an NHS tax credit exemption certificate or a valid HC2 certificate.

You should have reminded the operator that 111 is for exactly that kind of inquiry and to remember who pays their wages!
we pay N.I and prescriptions in England, Scotland and Wales and unsure about Ireland.
but person on monthly medication say two items, their getting their N.I paid back by free prescription nice one #not
Go inside and ask "Do you run the minor ailments service"?
Or if you are shy look at the window or door as a POSTER needs to be displayed to let the public know.
If you knew the real cost a Pharmacy pays for stock you would be fuming. It is nowhere near the 8.05 for most items.
Wow, pharmacyguy, you registered just over an hour ago especially to post on this thread!
most if not all should do it.
And when I requested prescription for my daughters head lice last year at my local surgery, they would not prescribe.
Seem unfair.
according to Boots website headlice is covered.
A lot of pharmacies ( in my area) dont treat under 5's under minor ailments
This is where money gets wasted i have never heard of anyone getting a script for nappy rash or teething. I would just have bought it and wouldnt have had the nerve had i known about it to ask for it for free. OTC treatments aren't that dear after all
Who would want to go to a pharmacy to get headlice
Comment #20 suggests the information is contradictory on who is eligible - my son and I both registered when we still had to pay for prescriptions (at the chemist's suggestion). I don't know that I've ever used it for myself though. But it was helpful at one point for my son, as it allowed us to get something for him that you couldn't get in any of the local chemists over the counter, and normally on prescription only.
