Worth knowing!

Or do what I do- go in to the short stay, drop off your passengers then drive to the exit and tell them you've driven in to the wrong car park by mistake.
Then floor it when they open the barrier for you.

I’m surprised. I was about to say what a shame that nothing like that in Luton... slowly they charge for the air in that rip off airport. The state of the outdoor carpark road is like a warzone(mad)

I used the long stay car park at Heathrow for my 2 free hours parking a few weeks back and about 10 mins by shuttle bus to airport.

Handy - thanks for the info/posting

Think most car parks you can drive in and out again,as drivers can go in by mistake,
not sure how long they allow tho.Probably 5mins.

Only 15 mins in the Mid-Term - but good enough for drop off. I see there is now a sign that if you go past the traffic lights immediately after the Mid-Term they state you will be charged £3 minimum!

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!

Perfect if you have a flight with Monarch, 2 hours will be plenty.

Stansted airport charges 3.50 for a couple of seconds to let out a passenger and 25 for 15 minutes, let alone the queue to get out or the machines only accepting coins could cause your bill to go up.

Utlesford District Council wont allow planning for any other meet and greet parking, ie. competition, and the whole system is a rip off.

I've got to pick up my mums friend from Gatwick tomorrow!
So am I understanding this right. I need to go to the long stay cat park to get it free or is it up to 2 hours free in the short stay too?

Anything available for pick ups in Manchester? Guess not but just thought to ask. Thanks.

EDINBURGH longstay also allows 1hr free parking and free shuttle bus to terminal. However only a 5 minute walk to arrivals.

Who needs car parking in an airport at the moment with pretty much all flights cancelled

It's only the long stay, there's a free shuttle bus between it and the terminals. Friend did this last month when picking us up, they text me which area and stop they were parked near and we got shuttle bus to where they were parked.

It's £1 just to drop off/pick up at Belfast International, max 10 minutes. It also has a smoking area (it's the top of a fire escape or something) you have to pay, yup, £1 to get into. It has to rank in the top 2 worst airports in the western world. And I'm not aware of any being worse.

Only in Cardiff do they only give you 10 mins then charge £5 a second (might be £5 per 5 mins but complete rip of. Used to charge you to drop off. Also no access to free water whatsoever after security. No water fountain just over priced bottles in WH Smiths. On plus side disabled assistance at CWL is outstanding .

Just use the drop off for departures and get who ever your picking up to meet you there.

In order to use this car park do you have to book it in advance?

I don't see the point of dropping off to use the free 2 hours, just drop them at the point and drive off unless you want to go into the terminal etc.

However, when it comes to picking up for years I used the "drop off" point but now it seems difficult to park there and so many of these silly wardens stand around. Makes it hard to pick people up from heathrow but this is a good deal for that circumstance.

If everyone waited in the drop off point to pick up people it would be jammed up pretty quick. Dropping off can be done in seconds. Picking up - unless they are there ready, is often a waiting game for people to clear customs, get luggage etc and can take ages. It's done for a reason. Not just to inconvenience you.

Ok thanks.
Is the long stay car park a lot further away then if you need a shuttle bus?

Careful with Stansted mid-stay, if you exceed the 2hours by even 1 minute, it's £25. Learned the hard way.

This is great. Although the shuttle service doesn't seem that reliable. On Friday, I had to wait 40 minutes for the Heathrow shuttle that suppose to come every ten minutes.

The 2 hours would fly by in no time.

Thanks

not a bad idea. especially when collecting people and you dont know how long they will take to come out.
however the bus transfer is not always quick or frequent even at peak hours. So you could eat up a good portion of your time waiting for the buses or it may go smoothly. BIt of a lottery. So probably just easier to pay the short stay rates and be done with it.

Heathrow T3 also?

Glasgow Airport now charges £2 to drop off or pick up a passenger.

Also when you get into the terminal at Stanstead it's a 5 mile approx walk to the departure gates through an endless array of shops that near seem to sell a thing. O nice bitten twice shy will never use Stanstead ever again.

what a brilliant post. So handy to know

Birmingham airport allow 30 mins free parking then it's £5 for every 15 mins up to 60 mins then £5 for every 5 mins - scandalous!!

....still added heat for the other airports - good to know.

typically nothing for Scotland, Glasgow, Prestwick, or Edinburgh, still good if in ur area, so good post

I did it by genuine mistake once, and I even went to the terminal before realising.
The person was kind enough to let me out at the gate. They also mentioned 5 minute time - however the Heathrow short stay is often so congested you often can't make it to the exit within 5 minutes even if you try!

We were in Boston a couple of weeks ago. Parked in a multi-storey, no prices advertised on the way in. We were charged $40 for a 7hr stay. Turns out all the multi-storey carparks are attached to hotels, who use them as an excuse to fleece tourists/shoppers. Then we went to a shopping mall in Providence and got 2hrs free in the carpark there.

I just clicked on the main link as you suggested for Heathrow, terminal 5, tomorrow for 1 hour and the quote was £26.50...

Such a waiting game that you are likely to overstay the 1 hour. Anyone know if the standard mid term carpark hourly rate is charged on exit, minus your 1 free hour, with no strings?

Most airport drop off and pick up parking have absolutely extortionate prices, I dropped my wife and two boy at Manchester airport recently watched them check in and left, I was there 28 minutes, when they arrived back I waited 17 minutes as I thought I’d timed it just about right so as not to be charged too much, between dropping and picking them up it cost me just short of £17.00, absolutely disgraceful, how do they justify these prices, August 2016 I paid £51.00 on there meet and greet parking for 10 days which I suppose was good value compared to £17.00 for less than one hour.
