Free parking in Westminster London. for Electric or Hybrid Vehicles

Thought I would post this as a lot of people don't realise it, not only is congestion charge free, you can also park for free in Westminster

Combustion engine drivers have to pay £10 for 2 hours, or £24 for Q Parking! so this is a nice saving if you are visiting London in an EV.....

You are dependant on traffic wardens realising you are driving an EV so might be prudent to leave a note in your screen to say your car is an EV

IMPORTANT NOTE: Especially for Congestion Charging in London, please be aware that Hybrid refers to plug-in Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) not non-plug ins.

In any case for CC exemptions, you need to register Annually for a cost of £10 Registration Fee.

Not wanting to disappoint....

OP, can you or a mod put this in the right section, it should be in freebies

Voted hot! Thank you for the reminder. Plus vehicle cat tax increases 1 April for new vehicles.

I thought it was only for up to 4 hours?

Why post asking a Mod to move it? Do you really think that they read every post?
The best way to contact the Mod team is to use the 'report' button, that's what it's there for.

each area has it's own limits I believe

"free on-street parking in Westminster in paid-for bays for the maximum prescribed period" still a big saving

Yes it is up to 4 hours, but you can move it to another location for further 4 hours.

Sorry? can you explain?

the generation of electricity involves burning fossil fuels at a power station out of London so the pollutant gases still emitted but more likely in industrial areas
secondly ev's have toxic components made in the far east such as batteries/chargers
thirdly end of life disposal is also a hazard
components are shipped around the world producing more pollutants
so ev's not environmentally friendly at all

I'm afraid that this a myth.

See the wiki article for a comprenhensive debunking.

The key point is that even if the electricity is generated using fossil fuels the lifetime environmental impacts are far less for electric cars compared to pertrol/disel cars. Additionally as we continue to decarbonise the grid (already roughly 25% renewable) the environmental impacts will only get lower.

The battery concern is valid, but overrated and there are plenty of people looking in to way to recycle electric car batteries.

BMW already announced they will be using any old batteries from their I3 range as fusion storage, so there is no waste

I didn't "ask a mod", I asked the OP "or" a mod. The OP will obviously be checking through the thread and ideally, he/she will see about moving it, or if there happened to be a mod looking through...

Worth noting that this only applies to Plug-in Hybrid vehicles, not 'regular' Hybrids
Edited by: "m4rts" 9th Mar

Please be aware that Hybrid refers to plug-in Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) not non-plug ins. Used to be all types of Hybrids but I think that changed about two years ago. So now some hybrids do pay Congestion Charge and Parking Charges where they were free before.

Excellent piece of info. and reminder though, so have some heat.

Does it applies to Toyota Auris hybrid with 90gm emissions

Except this renewable is virgin wood pellets shipped from the other side of the world such as USA. Crazy.
