This was posted a few months ago by @muffpuff but as I recently got my activation code, I thought I would share again for anyone that missed it.

I don't play games (in fact, I sometimes criticise those who do) but I was interested to check it out whilst it was free, and have to say I'm very impressed.

There are loads of free to play games in there, and I understand it let's you play Steam and Battle.net games too - if that means anything to you!?

Hope it helps some people out there.

Games are not free. You have to buy them.
Cloud service is free for now.

Should mention that you do need somewhat a decent download speed. Nvidia recommends at least 15 mbps for 720 60fps or 25mbps for 1080p 60fps.
I've got my code and can confirm this is impressive as I only use a laptop, although I can't remember when I applied for the beta and hopefully it will stay in beta until the end of the year before charging. When you load the application from that point onwards it's streaming from a remote high end computer and the last game I tried was powered by an Nvidia Tesla P40 but you are limited by your internet speed, you'll need 15Mbps for 720p 60fps and 25Mbps or higher for 1080p 60fps which is the maximum streaming performance so far. It really is good.

What is free in this instance is processing power.

But there are free to play games in there too.
Got my code today. Gonna give it a go tomorrow

Got a 40mbps line and it's still not fast enough. Good idea though
Will give this a whirl, not got a high spec PC but do have a 200Mbps FTTH connection.
If anyone has a spare code I would be immensely grateful! I only signed up the other day but not heard people wait months to get a code and it appears to be random.
I've been waiting since February and not heard back on 3 different accounts
I just got my code a few days ago as well (signed up in jan) A bit disappointing that there aren't even a few free games, and my internet isn't fast enough to give me better graphics than I can already manage. This is a cool service but it only really benefits a very select group or people right now.

Can't wait for minesweeper 4k edition

I've just completed my 4th million play through of Solitaire 4k.
Is this just like playstation now
Also by me @Xboxgamer321
How good is this for FPS games where lag would be an issue?
You criticise people who play games? Why the need to defend yourself?

C’mon guys - this chap has been here for 7 years, hasn’t posted a single deal and doesn’t say please or thanks - help him out, it’s not fair that he should wait in a queue like everyone else
Its just a streaming service that will cost loads of money when it goes live. Its like £25 per month which makes it very expensive for 1080p gaming.

The games are not included and you have to pay for them separately.

There is a ‘free to play’ section, not sure if they are just demos or full games.
Just be aware that when it comes to cloud gaming, the quality of your connection is just as, if not more important, than the speed. Never use 2Ghz WiFi, use wired connection if possible. I would link to a write up about it but hotuk doesn't like the link
Man I've been waiting code for months and still nothing

Btw, you can install any steam game, not just the ones in the UI. You just need to reinstall each time, cloud sync deals with save games.
....just very patiently waiting to try this
I signed up to this months and months ago.....still waiting for a code

That's the bit I don't understand. It's great you can link your steam accuont to access the library, but why not just have a repository of games already downloaded & installed rather than having to install them on some session that gets wiped at each logout?

Just out of interest mate, looking at your image above. I assume that once you have access to the GeForce now programme there's no charges for Fortnite?

I'm working more and more these days and have an iMac that's sadly inadequate of playing Fortnite, but wouldn't mind doing so to fill some time. I assume if I can get in this will stream FN to me on a Mac at high res?
I thought this was another onlive streaming service. Got into the beta the other day booted it up and was disappointed to see it's just a way to stream games you own but off a different server with a 1080 GPU.

Didn't bother after that.
I always thought this was a good idea but the latency and bandwidth needed for a good experience is too high IMO. I have a low latency link at work but not enough bandwidth and at home we have Sky and it's fast but terrible for reliability, it will have random dropouts (not total disconnect just a short burst of no transmission) or patchiness for no reason and that would make this unusable - nothing worse than lag, lag, insta-dead!

On-live was a great service, shame it died. Also off topic but I really really miss dealspwn...
I got my code last week. I've been really impressed with the service. Obviously works best with Ethernet connection rather than wireless.

The fact that you can have games on your Steam account and play them without having to install them on your own hard drive is a big benefit.

Will be interesting to see what they will charge for it.

I think it's to do with how well they perform with Geforce Now.. some games have rendering issues or are not streaming-friendly. Nvidia are putting the good ones in peoples faces so people are impressed with the service. But I agree, just having a similar grid logo display system, but only the games you have in Steam would be better.. Maybe also Steam is more agreeable with Nvidia if they do it this way as if you don't have the game that you run via the UI, it goes into the Steam store page and you can buy it there and then
Got my code last night. Streaming works great but the app itself isn't very good and it's not detecting my Steam games properly (should have 20+ but it's only listing a couple).

Hi Buzz.

I'm no expert on gaming at all, but I had a play on Fortnite on my Mac mini last night and it appeared to run very smoothly.

I have Sky Fibre Max and get around 55-60mbps.

Hope that may be useful.

Have you tried searching for them manually in Steam? It is a beta after all.

It doesn't detect any games, the games on the main screen are only shortcuts to most common games out there. You can always click top right (your username) and select 'Manage Steam'. Once running, install any Steam game you want from your own library. Once you've ran any Geforce Now supported game, it'll appear in the 'Library', tab on the left.
