Is it only those 2 locations? My father is posted in the Falklands and we regularly send him stuff - would be great if it was free to post stuff there too

When i was in the RN (not that long ago ;-)) we used to get 'Blueys' (blue a4 pieces of paper that turn into an envelope) that enabled our families to write to us for free. We definately used them when i was in the Falklands.

Thought they could use them everytime we were on deployment for any length of time

Sure they are available for other forces as well, maybe worth asking about, then you can contact your loved ones as often as you like for free

hm, loophole!!

do the Soldiers get free mail back too??

if so, send everything to you forces relatives, and let them send them on to where you really want them to be!!

be a nice way to skank RM out fo their way overpriced rates.

You can send e blueys as well, they are free to send. This link will take you to the website.

Just wanted to add that the parcel cannot exceed 2KG but you can send as many parcels as you want provided they are less than the limit.

Thank god for free postage. I've saved loads sending stuff to my OH in Afghan.

Do they check your family? Just my mate is going out to Afghanistan in … Do they check your family? Just my mate is going out to Afghanistan in August, so this is pretty cool to post him useless crap.

Relatives AND friends/loved ones can send mail out, so nope, no checks are made. Just make sure parcels are under 2KG and you hand them over the counter, rather than just bunging them straight in the post box to qualify for free postage. And make sure you don't send prohibited items (ie: aerosols, perishable goods etc), and you attach a customs label.
