Free refills on ANY tea or coffee at Wetherspoons!

Found 21st Oct
Used to be just filter coffee, but now includes: cappuccino, latte, flat white, Americano, espresso, filter coffee and tea.

This is at the Half Moon JD Wetherspoon on Mile End Road, London. Apparently around 100 pubs already have the machine (see link).

Yes there may be someone in there at 8am with two pints of Stella and a newspaper. Yes it's from a machine and isn't the best coffee in the world. Yes sometimes the tables are sticky. No it doesn't have band 20. No it's not a 10 bit panel. But at £1.20* for unlimited coffee or tea, enough to keep caffeine flowing through your veins for the whole day, I can't complain.

*May be different prices or unavailable elsewhere.

Coffee.

In Scotland we need Irn Bru. Sounds a very good offer when Greggs Costa …In Scotland we need Irn Bru. Sounds a very good offer when Greggs Costa etc charge over double.

I work for spoons, and my workplace is getting these installed during our refurbishment.
They are rolling them out accross all the pubs, just takes a long time sadly (we've been on waiting list for a year)

Seems to be in many Wetherspoons now and a great addition ................................. for my wife.

I'll be off to my local soon.

It's been going a long time in any of the wetherspoons we visit x

Assume this is offered IF/WHEN they install their new fancy self-service coffee machines in the public area (with LOADS of choices), rather than them just having the barista/bar-person operated machine behind the bar for non-filter and the filter self-service thermos-tank in the public area.

Last week found they have added one in their now one-remaining Bradford W.Yorks pub and it produced good latte coffee, and great value for c£1.20 when claiming a refill!

Yep it was self service, should help reduce queuing times too. Website says they're aiming to have this rolled out in all their pubs by mid November.

Do they have wifi too? This will be very handy

They've got one of these at the Bishop's Mill in Durham, quite a whizzy machine - bar person gives you an empty mug and you use their touch screen machine. It was only 99p there

I know they all probably have differing rents, but it's interesting that they all have different prices depending on which one you go in.

Spoke to a member of staff the day, they said the new machines are worth over 10k each. I've had a better cup of cold Nescafé. Utter rubbish

It's starts with tea and coffee before you know it you will be eating frozen food with a pint deals.

Shame their latte and mocha are soooo bad in my local!

Are they as bad as those drinks machines in nHS hospitals? I find whatever I order tastes of the previous selection!

Not too bad, ta

It is free refills cos it tasted like dog sh*t.

The half moon.

The moon on the hill.

The moon under water.

Wok is it with moons and pubs.

Heat for the message - but sorry not FHD!

Great price but their coffee is horrible.

Starbucks offers complimentary refills on their filter for about £1.60
McDonalds coffee is alot nicer and about £1.70
Waitrose just requires you have their loyalty card and buy something else

The coffee in Wetherspoons is a lot better than the beers available in Starbucks - that's why I don't buy beer in Starbucks and you shouldn't go in to Wetherspoons if you want good coffee

Coffee anyone?

Good ! i spent a fortune on tea while my company dropped a quid for unlimited coffee! about time!

Is still only till mid day or whatever it was? I always seem to get there too late in the day.

Nothing worse going in my Withers for a point and stuck behind some idiot ordering decaf skinny frappy wappy lattes taking about an hour !!! Pub for beer Starbucks for all that crap ! Simple..

Best value for money breakfast at £3.75 (our local spoons). Fair dos no black pudding but served on a warm 'spode' style plate. Always asked if everything is okay.
Cant go wrong imo.

Work in spoons also, some already have these, a lot don't have it yet. If yours doesn't then it is just the standard 1.10 for the regular filter coffee, or pay per drink for tea, latte etc

This time of year it's getting so cold on the streets, prehaps think on and buy a bottomless brew for whoever is homeless and sat outside.

Bottomline: Use Spoons or Starbuck for the seating and meeting with people. You pay for the premium space in the vicinity of the High Street. The beer, coffee & food are support services which are incidental to the socialisation using the premium space. Then you decide which is good value for money when compared to your own space at home. Without a question, if you are OK with Wethers' environment, they represent best value for money for food and drinks in the High Street.

Takeaway coffee is a waste of national labour and welfare resources, as Starbucks-style of services.. need an incessant stream of low wage workers but the work is too hard for £7.50 Brits (but worth 2X , 3X , 4X for some EU nationals when money is remitted back home). Likewise it is too hard work for Germans, Belgians etc. for the same £7.50/hr because money remitted back home is too little in Germany and Belgium. Takeaway coffee is as costly to the nation and drain to valuable resources as takeaway draft beer and that was why as a factor as to why we never ever had a sustainable economy of takeaway draft beer from pubs in our culture.

The worst case scenario is a person makes your coffee, gets paid £7.50/hr on zero contract, needs all the welfare benefits support and social services. In effect your £1.80 coffee costs you much more even when you don't actually pay the money but someone else have to. Growth in service sectors actually means growth in working tax credit payouts, no CEO of Starbucks-style company will tell you this in their annual report, like for 1000 workers, they pay out £x m wages (plus a foot-note to say, y number of them claimed a total £z m from welfare and social services).

I've now been enlightened.

Always been annoyed by the fact Wetherspoon offer free refills on coffee but not tea which is surely cheaper anyway ! Is this just this one Wethersppon or being rolled out nationwide ?

It stems from a column that George Orwell wrote in 1946 about a pub called "The Moon Under Water" The pub didn't actually exist it was his idealisation of the perfect pub. People started naming their pubs after this to convey the image of the perfect pub.

I think the price war on breakfast customers is waged against the coffee shops.
