There are lots of similar sites. Some are very good. This one is not much good for those of us in the UK because it relates to items on the US market.

Have you links for these sites? You may have a point with vehicles but other items are pretty much internationally universal

thanks op

You mean there is some relationship between, for example, giant 110v US brand 15Kg washing machines and spin dryers, UK ones, Gateway laptops, or the many other US brands that are not sold here?
As to whether I could give links to similar sites, I could, but there are so many, dozens at least, and not appropriate for here, as they are hardly 'deals'. The first place that anyone should be looking for repair data is on the manufacturer's site. If not available there, then you can Google for data about whatever you have a particular problem with. Most people that need maintenance or repair data for numerous different items on a regular basis already know where to get it, and few others need it to that extent. For example, try 'repair my iphone'......

OK joneeboy. Thanks for the tips!

Must remember to use this myself rather than spend ages Googling to begin with.

This site was featured on the excellent Jaques Peretti programme on BBC2 at the weekend "The men who made us spend". It was started because the guy was so angry when his ipod battery died after 18 months of use and apple told him he would be better off buying a new ipod because there was a $250 charge to get it mended. Built in obsolesence is just accepted nowadays but why should it be?

Absolutely agree. Interesting programme, and Peretti's viewpoint is spot-on. Companies like Apple are ripping off their customers and wrecking the planet - both at the same time. A compulsory minimum 5 year guarantee period on all products over a certain price would help deal with this, and put paid to the ludicrous levels of pre-planned obsolescence we now have to endure.

But Gateway laptops are sold here!

Acer sells Gateway PCs in Europe as Packard Bell.

People repair things? How quaint.

thanks

Watched that programme and very interesting and informative it was too. Strangely episodes 2 & 3 were available on iPlayer before episode 1

Yes i feel bad that the world we live in now is used to throwing stuff away than repair it. Also economics dont match. We should have more repair shops offering competitive pricing

I not sure if the app still on iTunes as o think they got there app removed due to opening up the latest iPhone and done a tear down of it
