Hi first post on here in a long time but here goes.
May be account specific but I was checking my sky account and due to having sky sports in my offers section was a free sky HD box

I got annoyed with Sky Q crashing every other day back when it first came out. They refused to put back the original LNB, bought one off amazon for £7 fitted myself. Phoned sky the next day told them I had done it myself (put the Sky Q LNB in with the boxes when they got sent back as I would be charged for it as this isn't yours either) then they gave me 80% off my package...

Didn't realise they still did these boxes
Never paid for one, think it's bigger hard drive ones that cost money isn't it?
its all Sky Q box now with sky, much better
Is sky q exactly the same just over WiFi now?, and more expensive than with the older sky+ hd boxes?

Sky Q still uses a dish, for now, but can be entirely IP driven in the future if needs be. Sky will also sell dish free subs but you will only get Sky channels, not independents.

Major difference to Sky+HD being the Q box is loaned - not sold or given, so it's only yours as long as you subscribe. There is no free tier. And in most cases they change the dish and LNB when they fit Sky Q so you can't go back to a free to air service or box when you leave. Clever Sky.

Did you double check that their 'free' box hasn't recontracted you for another term?
My mum still uses one of the old ones of these with the old blue menu system. I'd love to be able to find one with that same blue menu but the one that had the HD channels section as well

I was told when I got sky q that they changed the reciever to a hybrid so it will still work if you didn't have a sky q box. Haven't checked it works tho...

Get a laptop fan under it, fixed mine during the heatwave.
Can't stand the new Sky Q box as tends to record all programmes not just the new episodes... anyone know how to fix this annoying problem?

Press record twice on the show when you go to record it. It cancels series link. They should have showed you this when they installed it.

No still dish, recording 6 watching a 7th, hot spots from boxes, Spotify, fluid viewing etc etc etc so so much more advanced than any provider out there

You are choosing series link, if you push record again it will toogle on and off. If it has arrows next to it then it is series linked

It allows multiple recordings so no more clashes, also with silver box and subscription you get sports and movies in ultra hd. If you have a box in another room, it is linked by mesh (WiFi kind of) to the main box, so you can watch all the recordings on the main box on all the other boxes.

it is a worthy upgrade to the old box

If you cancel series link, then it might not record future episodes. You might have set that programme to record on a repeated episode, thays why it might be rwcording everything of that name. Cancel it and set it to record series link on a future first aired recording, then it should only record future new episodes

How easy is it to change the lnb ? What do you need ? I have sky q installed but will cancel soon and there are two cable feeds currently to the box

Don’t think a hybrid is much more expensive, so if you switch to that you will not have to do it again if you switch back to Sky Q

I asked the engineer for a hybrid when we got sky Q installed, I said I wanted to be able to watch my old sky HD box recordings and he fitted one no problem instead of the normal sky Q thing

I love sky Q & having a sky Q mini box we can move around the house. just so expensive though!

+ Sky Q has 4k capabilities.
Sky Q will only alllow 2TB per house you cannot have more than one recording box unlike sky HD. You can’t have a mixed sky HD and sky Q subscribed system although it is technically possible they won’t allow it. Some people can operate their sky hd boxes for a while after changeover though. I wasn’t aware that they asked for the hybrid LNB back if you unsubscribed but it sounds like them.....
The many issues with sky q boxes mean that I’m reluctant to change-perhaps they’ll programme in multiple errors like they did with the Thomson HD boxes to force people to change over.

Hybrid lnb's are not part of standard install, and if you get Sky Q installed and can't persuade or don't ask the installer for a hybrid they will put the Q lnb in which will mean old boxes and freesat etc will not work. I can't imagine that Sky asks for hybrids back, where did you hear that, it is about £15 worth of kit and can't see the point of sending an engineer back for that, its not cost effective.

I have had my Sky Q for a year and have had no issues, and think I have had to restart the mini box twice as it lost connection in that time. What might cause issues is if you have a large house and/or currently have wifi issues in certain rooms etc and you might need to hard wire the mini box.

Sky as a company are moving away from satellite, and that will be the biggest change over the next 10 years which will kill the old boxes.
But surely sky shouldn't be charging its customer the £12pm extra just for sky q box on top of your package
Can you still transfer recorded programs from a 'Q' box with a HDMI splitter?
